Air Transat - Any Good?

Fri Feb 20, 2004 8:55 am

Hey guys,

I'm flying Air Transat for the first time next week from Montreal to Ixtapa on a L1011-500. I was wondering if anyone had flown there L1011 and how they found the experience. This will without doubt be my last ever Tristar flight. Also, is it worth the extra $$$ to get an upgrade into their Club Class?

Thanks.

Yeah, they're fine - and their (mostly) previously CX L-10-11s are roomy and comfortable. Don't expect much from the food, but the cool thing on those planes is the old business class seating in the front cabin has been kept. Transat charges something lilke $35 extra per segment to sit in their 'club' class (pay for it at checkin), and it's nice & roomy (but the service is the same thru the entire plane).

Flew them to Vancouver a few summers ago - I even got to visit the cockpit during the flight (then again it was in 2000).

Have fun in Mexico

I flew on TS's A310-300 about a month ago to PUJ and back to YVR. The seats are very comfortable and the service was good. Like Lucky said, the food is not terrific, but it is also not terrible.

As far as upgrading to the Club Seats, I did not notice too much difference in leg room. I'm 6'3" so unless i'm sitting on a Major airline in First class, leg room is always not enough. If you are sitting in Economy, try to get an aisle seat so you can stretch your legs out, or if you are short, just get a window seat.

Enjoy Mehico!

To be completely honest with you I haven't heard anything good about their service. I have heard many people complain about their bags smelling like jet fuel after the flight.

I flew with Air Transat in September/October, between Calgary and Amsterdam, on their Airbus A330. I felt like I was I was in a sardine can. (And I'm only 5'9". The food was ok, the flight attendants were very nice and the flight was on time both ways...

Flying to Amsterdam was ok... *excited*...

Flying back to Calgary was a different story... I was hung over like crazy, from the night before at the clubs in Amsterdam.... I couldn't wait to get home...

10 hours with them? well... depends... I paid 600 bucks for that flight... so, for the price, you get a great service... if you wanna pay more..

Cheers  Big thumbs up

I flew the L1011 Christmas '02 and chose to sit in their Club seats and WOW what a difference...but the only problem was that C-FTSW was a little worse for wear. The reason for the club upgrade was cause they screwed up our seats so i didn't want to have to sit jammed in like the way down on the A310 C-FDAT....so i said F-DAT lets move up....plus our bags were WAY over weight as we only brought half our stuff down and the rest was in the parents trailor...they didn't say anything about the bags for club seat pax....

Good all around airline for point a to point b.... oh they said we would have the L1011 both ways.... we only got it back...even the stupid people at TS when i reserved exit row seating for the way down thought it was a 1011 both way.....sheeeeeshhhhh....

I handle Air Transat Baggage Service in LAS -( Las Vegas) and meet the arrival in Baggage Claim, I have not taken 1 damage claim on TS644 and TS 674 this season and I am at the carousel and have never smelled Jet fuel on any bags, rest assured I would be on the Horn with the local TS Manager and YMX/ YYZ about this.

Air Transat is a good airline. They have been around for many years and have flown with them maybe 15 times and never had any problems with baggage. The flights are usually on time but the inflight is nothing spectacular as they have also followed the trend to sell food.

..And the L1011s are beggining to be a rarity so enjoy your flight.
