ATA L-1011's At Kalb?

Sat Feb 21, 2004 12:03 am

I was just on Albany airport's web site and under our planes they had a pic of an L-1011. They do get all of the other planes. They call it an L111 on the site. Anyone know anything about it or when the service started or stopped?

Mu2,

I believe that's a mistake. I live in the area and have seen the picture of "our planes" posted by a parking area where people go plane watching. ALB does not have L1011 service (to my knolwdge it never has). We get mostly 737, Beech 1900, A319/320?, ATR, MD-80 whatevers, etc. The largest plane that frequents ALB, is a 757 from UPS (other than the National Guard planes which practice in the area).

Hope this helps.

I am puzzled why people are surprised to see ATA L1011's at smaller airports. ATA up until recently was exclusively a charter airline, therfore their aircraft occasionally will fly most everywhere with a 7000ft runway. I think the ALB website with L1011 pix was correct. Also I think DL had 763's divert in 99 when an all day fog caused virtuallu all intl arrivals to divert.

SQ25J,

That's not the point. The question is whether there is L1011 service at ALB or not. As you can see from their list of airlines, ATA does not fly to ALB. Also, under "our planes" you also see Air Force One which landed here when President Clinton came to Albany in 1994(?). This tells me that the pictures are of planes that have landed at ALB at one time or another. Maybe the ATA L1011 was a charter or a diverted flight.
