AAdvantage Miles Upgrade Question

Sat Feb 21, 2004 3:31 am

If you upgrade to First Class using your AAdvantage Miles, do you still earn miles for the flight? Do you earn the bonus miles for flying in F/C? Or, are you SOL regarding mileage accumulation for that segment?

No - airlines don't offer any kind of mileage accrual for non-fare-paying travel.

Don't do it if you have to fly on an AA 757. I cashed in miles to fly cross country and the first class seat and service on the 757 was horrible. I flew a 737/767 back home and it was MUCH better!!!!

If you pay $ for the coach seat and then upgrade to first or business, you will get coach miles.
"Lose" is not spelled with two o's!!!!

Indeed--you will get as many miles as if you sat in coach. No premium bonuses, though.

If you have any further questions about AAdvantage, I'd suggest checking out the American Airlines forum on www.flyertalk.com. I find it a much better resource for mileage-related questions.
