Which Is Your Favourite Ticket Jacket?

Sun Feb 22, 2004 8:07 am

Mine would be from the 80's and into the early 90's, UA. When they had First Class (navy blue, double sided on a horizontal orientation, very nice stock), Connoisseur (burgandy) and Coach (grey I think....didn't fly Y much then). It all went along with when they introduced their then "new" livery and matched the stripes of the livery. I still have some of those jackets, sentimental journeys.

Ok, so what is yours?

I've never seen this topic before! I like USAir's 4/96 jackets with the AT&T ads on the backside. They are all white, except for a think blue stripe at the bottom with the white letters USAir on the right side. Right above the USAir it has the gold letters fc behind the words FIRST CLASS.

Thanks for your feedback AAndrew. I'm a newbie to a.net, a little over a month now. Glad that I came up with a topic no one else has come up with yet. I am looking forward to reading the replies as they come in.

The Air Canada one I got in 1999 was quite nice.

I also like the recent Aloha ones with the flower motif down the left side.

F9 uses pics of the animals you see on the tails. There is a brief description of the animal on the inside fold and a listing of what aircraft registration numbers have that image on their tail. The inside is pretty standard airline issue with a couple foldout pages of teeny-tiny legal stuff. There is also a credit card application so you can get a branded MasterCard with your favourite tail on the back.

Modern ticket jackets don't do much for me.
BUT...
Evere seen the classic Pan Am's "Clipper Portfolio's" from the 50's?
I bought two on eBay, and they are most interesting.... One is a three fold booklet with art on the front, and a Strato Clipper on the inside. The other is a simple bifold with the same art on the front, and a Super 6 Clipper inside. Both had the copies of the tickets and itineraries, and loads of other goodies...

Makes current folders pretty boring....

I have a small collection of ticket jackets. A lot of them are from flights that I was personally on, however I have some ticket jackets given to me by a very good friend that is a superb travel agent and had access to some nice stuff. I'd have to say that my favorite out of the bunch (these were never used and in superb condition, mind you) are:

Southwest Airlines 20th Anniversary 1971-1991 "We're Celebrating Our 20th Anniversary. Time Flies When You're Having Fun" 20 Years Of Loving You

ATA 25th Anniversary "On ATA You're On Vacation"

Silver Pan Am Ticket Jacket from 1988 (very very classy looking)

Singapore Airlines (Jacket is made of a very very thick high-quality paper that is textured. The jacket is all black, with Singapore Airlines at the bottom, and a yellow and white stripe running down across the ticket jacket diagonally)

USAirways Envoy class jackets are nice. Dark blue, with ENVOY CLASS on the front. Simple but nice.

Back in January I also came across some of the new ticket jackets that US has started using in some areas...vertical! May not be new (or even seen) in all areas depending on how much of the older stock people have.

I like the American Airlines ticket jacket. I'm not sure if it's the current one or not but it was from a flight a couple of months ago. It's dark blue with the American Airlines logo in the top right corner with a 757 nose from the top coming in from the left edge. Another one I like is this ticket jacket I got on Northwest a few years back. It has a close-up of Northwest's compass logo with "50 Years Bridging the Pacific" on the right.

BWIA - light green, with the 737-800 in a climb attitude, looks absolutely divine. At the top, are the words of their slogan, "sharing our warmth with the world." The bottom portion of the jacket has their name and logo.

American - the nose of the aircraft there just looks sweet. Give you the feeling that you are flying in a sophisticated way.

Air Jamaica - all the colors, and their logo/hummingbird.

My favorite ticket jackets are all the rare 1980's airlines from the west, like Wien Air Alaska, Far West Airlines, Sunworld, etc. Also, I like the different USAir ticket jackets with all the Universal Studios stuff.

I have two favorites. One is the old alitalia (they may still have it but i doubt it) which was a picture of a bowl of cherries. The best though are the old THAI ticket jackets which have pictures of different places in thailand each of which is beautiful.

Jackets from airlines that no longer exist. Im quite proud of my Trans Texas and Central Airlines jackets. I better mention my Braniff pre flying colors along with Capital Airlines, the one United bought in 61. But really, people, I have a lot of them. I collect airline stuff from the 50's and 60's..thats my bag.

US Airways vertical ticket jackets are relatively new. However most stations have quite a large stock of the old horizontal ones, which must be depleted before getting the new vertical on. So far the vertical one is only available for the Economy ticket jackets..

CO's are really boring. They always have a picture of CO employees on the front with the blue CO background and their globe logo in the bottom left corner with a gold line around the edge of the cover. First Class jackets have a different picture and they say First Class on them. The back is usually an ad for their Chase credit card for OnePass.

The old BWIA ticket jackets from the 80's and early 90's had pictures of the MD-80's and Tri stars on them, that was pretty cool. Guyana Airways also had a pretty cool one with a picture of their 707 and then 757, lots of info on there.

you know, i really like the grey business class jackets on UA as well as the gold first class jackets--also on UA. something about the sheen, and stock makes it so great to hold.

in the recent movie "Win a Date with Tad Hamilton" the girl flies on UA first class from Fraziers Bottom, WV (presumably CRW) and there is a HUGE 767 in the background, and the girl is clutching a gold first ticket jacket--at least they got that right, instead of a huge 767 operating the fake sector.  Smile

i dont like f9 simply because every time i fly, i see to get that stupid elk. i mean i know there are other animals there, but seriously, every time--the elk!

Well the VS one is bright bright red- all red and simply says TICKET on it- handy cause no WAY you are going to be losing that sucker! But i like the simplicity of it.

I REALLY like the BMI ones- I got my ticket in the mail last year and it was a lovely paper in the blue of the airline with Walthamstow dog track on it and BMI on the other side- it was just nice and colorful

KLM is nice too
