5122 was a positioning ferry for a charter flight. Charter Flight 4054 operated MSP-DTW arriving in DTW at 0635 central. Looks like the equipment was positioned back to MDW as flight 5123 departing DTW at 0740 central time.

Southwest does charters to/from MSP every once and a while. I haven't been able to track down who they've been for yet but I'm presuming that they're unrelated. The charters always arrive and depart in the early morning, always gone by 7am.

I thought there were a lot of extra trashy people around the airport that day. Now that explains it.

Normally when they come for charters, you can find them at the HHH terminal too. Just another little FYI for you.

"The charters always arrive and depart in the early morning, always gone by 7am."

I contacted WN once about arranging a charter for a corporate group that I was handling. WN was upfront and told me that the charter would operate at odd hours. They utilize their A/C so much that there's not a lot of extra time available. It wouldn't work for my group...

I heard, interestingly enough, that WN does more military charter flying than any other carrier. Of course it's all within the US and all done overnight because of the high utilization of their a/c during the day. Can anyone actually confirm this?

Incorrect, I believe ATA does the most military charters.

TZFALAX,

I am not sure about WN doing more charter than other carriers. I have been flying MAC charters the last 3-4 months on the 747, 757, A320. The 737 can ONLY hold 137 people..not very good at tranporting troups in a large group when you can get 400++ on a 747.

SWA does indeed do alot of military charters, domestic, of course.

As far as who does the most, I suppose one would have to first define the criteria. The most passengers? The most flights? The most revenue?

As far as I'm concerned, SWA and ATA both do alot (maybe more than NWA, I don't know), and any discussion of who does the most/the best is essentially a meaningless excercise in semantics and bragging rights...  Big grin

ALL views, opinions expressed are mine ONLY and are NOT representative of those shared by Southwest Airlines Co.

Northwest does do a lot of military charters, however, I'm not sure if its up to ATAs amount. Northwest seems to always have at least one B742 out doing military charters to/from various places. ATA uses their L1011 for many of their charters.

Most WN charters are red-eyes.
