JetBlues 4 Am Flights From JFK

Sun Feb 22, 2004 3:18 pm

Does anyone know the purpose of these flights? How are B6s loads on them? Is it cost effective for them to keep their terminal open and staffed 24/7 just to cater to two or three flights?

Personally, I've always liked the idea of middle of the night flights. If any pair of cities could make a go of it, it would be NYC and South Florida/MIA. I wouldn't mind having a 4 AM departure as I stay up very late and love the late-night activity at airports. But I'm not representative of the rest of the population so what does everyone think?

377 to FLL--Departs 4:50 AM
375 to RSW--Departs 4:10 AM

its kinda crazy to know that we have flights that leave that early in the morning. but apparently some friends of mine who have worked those flights said that their flts have been pretty full. i can kinda understand those early flights in FLL's case since we have to many flights there from JFK and now BOS along w/ IAD and LGB. i'm sure its just a seasonal thing as we do have nearly 20 JFK-FLL flights winter time and 13(ish) flts summer time. good to know they're more than likely pretty full!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I think that these flights operate mainly during the winter season, generally on peak travel days around vacation periods.....they are operated because there is huge demand during the peak travel days, its the only time that JB has an aircraft available for an additonal flight, and all other flights are already fully-booked, thus even these flights at odd hours operate with good loads. Obvioiusly, this is a good thing for JetBLue, otherwise the aircraft would be sitting on the ground at JFK.

I think that passengers on the NY-FLorida route, which includes lots of vacationers and lots of regulars going back and forth between 2 homes, would NOT have a problem with the oddly timed flights - big attraction for many is that the airports are quiet at such hours which means less time for security and check in lines.

Those flights don't normally operate very often. This week especially with most schools being off, travel to FLA is very strong right now, esp. from NYC.

A flight that I don't really understand too much is B6 408. It leaves SJU at 255am and gets in to JFK at 550. This does not seem like it would be a heavily travelled route so i assume its primarily for repositioning of the a/c. Am i wrong?

If you have a daytrip to Florida, these flights make perfect sense. Arrive early, do what you need to do, and take a late night flight home.

NYC, I would think that SJU-NYC is a very heavily travelled route. It may be a repositioning flight but why not make some money on it. Why would you say this is not a heavily travelled route?

AA flies JFK-SJU 7x per day, 4x per week. DL will also start 2x daily JFK-SJU service this June.

Just as a reminder, any jetBlue flight to Florida that is 3 digits starting with the number 3 is an added flight to augment the schedule.

NYC is a good market for any airline serving SJU. B6 has done a good job with this flts.

As a Crewmember...a 6a.m. departure is way too early for me as it is. I can't even begin to imagine working a flight that has a departure at 2, 3, 4a.m. It's ridiculous!!!! Why bother going to sleep. You gotta go to bed at 4 in the afternoon to get ready for your trip. YIKES!!!!!

Thank goodness I don't work over there at that Blue airline. I myself would be feeling blue if working such an awful trip.

Redeyes are bad as it is.

But that is just my .02.

I can't imagine it's geared towards 'day trippers'. Reality is probably that the passengers have partied all night in New York, went to the airport, caught the flight to FLL at 0-dark-hundred, and crashed in bed in FLL until they're ready to party again all night in FL.

I agree with Maverick! Let's not forget that many people who fly JetBlue are young, and young people usually go to sleep in the am hours and wake up in the afternoon.

Last I heard, these flights were doing very well.

The SJU flight that's oddly timed may have something to do with getting people into JFK in the morning.

a 97% show factor really doens't mean anything. If only 40 people book the flight and all of them show up then its a 100% show factor. What is the load factor SJU767?

It's really a very good idea. Almost everyone offers a 6am flight, which means you need to be at the airport at 5am minimum, if you live an hour away, that means leaving your house at 4am, so you probably have to get up around 3 or 3:30. Some people will book a hotel room close to an airport for an early morning departure, but then that is an added expense. If your flight leaves at 4:10am, you have to be at the airport at 3, which means leaving your house at 2, so if you're any kind of a night owl, it's not all that bad. You get in early to your destination, if you're able to check into your hotel early or wherever you are going, you can get sleep till about noon. I'd rather not go to bed, than have to get up at that ungodly hour and still feel tired when I get where I'm going.

Also, I think the San Juan flights at 2:55am offers several morning connections at JFK. They have offered that flight since they started that route so it must be doing pretty well.

I think SJU767 meant that despite the weird timing of the flight, people will take it anyway and not miss it purposely to get booked on another, more convenient timed flight.

As its policy to not actualy release the actual loads of the flights i can only tell you that the early morning flights to FL are okay but the reason they're sent to FL is that they are full coming out of FL. A large majority of our flights don't remain over night in cities a large number do red eye flights from the west coast.

Everything from tampa, PBI, here in MCO and FLL are FULL out. Last week was daytona plus the spring breaks starting, and the winter birds, it makes sense. the previous week there wasn't a seat TO florida open on ANY carrier.

I think some of the majors kinda miss out on doing extra sections when needed. Delta seems to be the only smart one, bringing in 767s to DAB during race weeks.

just my two cents
