Turning Mechanism/Winglets

Sun Feb 22, 2004 6:30 pm

I was just wondering what the mechanism behind a mid-air turn of an aircraft was. In simpler terms, how do airplanes turn?

Also, what is the purpose of winglets, and why aren't they present on all aircraft.

An aircrafts banks (turns) using the AILERONS and not the winglets. Winglets reduce vortices.

Also, winglets are another technological enhancement that allow aircrafts to fly higher, farther and more fuel-efficiently than before.

Edit:
Just follow this link to learn more about winglet technology.
