"T" On Flight Plan

Mon Feb 23, 2004 1:24 pm

What is a "T" stand for when it's on the flight plan, just before the tail number. I know "L" is lifeguard...... thanks in advance... I was just wondering.

I am curious to know the same thing. It only occurred after 9/11.

Under FAR Part 135, a T is required in front of the tail number to identify the operation as a commercial flight. Only used by charter companies that don't have an ICAO call sign and 3 letter identifier. It's in the FARs and was seldom used prior to 9/11 but is more common now.

Their callsign would be "Tango Cessna xxxxx" or whatever.
