Dublin To Shannon For The Day

Mon Feb 23, 2004 9:43 pm

Has anyone flown from Dublin to Shannon for the day with Aer Lingus?

I notice the flight uses an A330 which I assume continues to a US destination.

Is there a viewing terrace in Shannon as I am sure it gets some interesting transatlantic aircraft for refueling?

I've done that trip just to fly the A330 of EI.

Pleasant experience.

SNN doesn't have an outside terrace, but does have a good one inside (you can buy some snacks too over there). There are several comfortable sofa's.

Traffic: I would certainly go in the morning to see the US traffic of EI/CO/DL/...

SNN always has some nice parked aircrafts, + aircrafts visiting the maintenance area.

Freighters can be nice too (World MD11, TNT, DHL,...) + quite often Russian visitors (AN124,...).

Hi Flyba,
I live and work here in Shannon and would also recommend to come here for the day. Let me know when you're coming ... It's a little bit like a lottery, you might have bad luck and come on a quiet and boring day. But there are great days quite often with lots of interesting movements you don't see that often anywhere else.

Regular passenger flights I am aware of at the moment are:
Aer Lingus 321, 332, 333
Aeroflot IL9 (only at night though)
Belavia TU5
British Airways CitiExpress DH3
Continental 752
Delta 763
Flybe. 142, DH4
Iberworld 320
Islandsflug 733
Ryanair 732, 738
Skynet 734
Volar 320

Scheduled cargo flights:
Air France Cargo 742
Channel Express AB3
DHL Air 752
European Air Transport AB3
Lufthansa Cargo 742
Royal Jordanian 313

In addition to that, there are lots of maintenance visitors, delivery flights, fuel stops, diversions and charter flights for the US Gulf operations.

Some visitors we had here in the last month (forgot the ones I had not seen myself :-():
Allegiant Air M83 (ex-SAS)
American 772
ATA Airlines L10, L15 (nearly on a daily basis)
European Aircharter 742
Evergreen Intl 742
Fly Air 734
Garuda 734 (ex-Aeroflot)
Martinair 742
North American 752, 763
Polet An-124
Russia IL6
Saudi Aramco D87
Sun Express 738
UPS 722
US Air Force 752
US Navy 73G
Varig 762
Volga-Dnepr An-124 (also nearly daily)

A day trip from Dublin to Shannon isn't much of a day trip if you fly there and back. The first flight to SNN from DUB gets in at 1030 and the last flight leaves at 1300. Doesn't give too much time but after lunchtime the airport's pretty dead anyway.
