BAC 1-11s On The Campaign Trail!?

Tue Feb 24, 2004 3:22 am

Some days ago I saw video of Howard Dean stepping off of what I could swear was a BAC 1-11 with a strange cactus-shaped sticker near the door, and then I found this pic on here:

Kerry apparently used one too at some point, anyone know who they belong to, how they are configured and who normally uses them?

N200EE and N200JX have been travelling together of late. I did not realize they were on the Campaign Trail.

Slightly off topic, didn't Leona Helmsley have one for her personal plane also?

I think it was a B727 Leona Helmsley had. N18HH rings a bell but I'm not 100% certain as that goes back a few years.

The one in the photo appears to have a hush-kit.

They were hush-kitted for stage 2 though.

Looked up the tail nos., both craft registered to a Select Leasing Inc. of Waukesha, Wisconsin, but no website or info about the owners....Anyway, got to be impressed by the fact that JX is a '65 model and EE is a '66...Nice to see some nearly 40 year old British airliners still in civilian service, would love to know more if anyone has any info....

Someone who I guess didn't want to post the info here has informed me that these aircraft belong to a Waukesha area car dealer, and are in fact for sale!!! Check them out, including their VIP luxury interiors, on www.aircraft.com - just look up the BAC 1-11s for sale by Select. Owner wants around $4m each, not a bad deal for a classic British airliner with a luxury interior....Where I live there are apartments that go for that! These are real '60s era British-built 1-11s and not the later "Rombacs" assembled in Romania, wonder who the original owners were? Anyone?

I found out later that the 1-11's were/are used by Dean. Kerry uses a Miami Air 737-800.

Why not go for both? It would be the birth of Airliners.net Executive Charter.

I'm for that, but apparently the current owner had trouble chartering them out! And according to today's news, he shouldn't expect to be getting his money from the Dean campaign anytime soon....But do check out the VIP interiors, very nice and with the added cachet of being in a classic airliner and not another bland bizjet...

N200EE made an appearance at CLL (Easterwood Airport, College Station TX) last week. I'm not really sure why, but it was out there on the GA ramp. I got a few pics of it seeing it was my first time to ever see a BAC 1-11.

Oddly enough two days later another BAC 1-11 showed up at CLL. I wasn't able to get the registration on it though. It was quite a shock because I thought I would never see two rare birds in one week especially at CLL.

They were a favorite in Britain for anyone campaigning for Prime Minister for a long time. Margaret Thatcher used them in all three of her campaigns--1979, 1983 and 1987.

Dodge;

According to www.red1aviation.com N999BW actually visited CLL twice. On Feb. 20 from DAL and again on Feb 21 from Lubbock. I hope that helps.

JetChaser,
Thanks for the info. It definitly was N999BW that I saw. When i saw it it was only here for about 2 hours then left. It was music to the ears though, loud, smokey, and lots of runway. It doesn't get any better.

I'm hoping we may see it again soon.
