New Long Haul Routes To DUB

Tue Feb 24, 2004 6:39 am

I am aware that Maidenair of South Africa are to start services sometime soon as the could not obtain certification to launch STN routes.

Any information on this route and indeed many others incl DXB?

Thanks in advance

Even though it is not really long-haul AMC Aviation of Egypt will begin charter flights between Sharm El Sheikh and Dublin in the winter. I am not sure which aircraft they will use but they operate A310s, A300s and MD-83s.

flights from UK and Ireland are classed as Long Haul because of the scheduled flight time to be over 5 hrs to Egypt. So it is really a long haul flight from DUB to SSH

Do you know if there've been links between Egypt and Ireland before?

There have been charter flights between DUB and Egypt before, (to Louxor?)

If I recall correctly Brittania were one operator here, there could have been others, but they dried up post 9/11, - doubtless due to unreasonable fears about "security" amongst potential holiday makers.

Horus,
Lotus operated from Luxor to Dublin but only for one summer I think in 2000 or 2001.

AMC Aviation will be using the A310-200 on a 1x weekly flight routing LXR-SSH-DUB.

Dani,

I'm afraid there'll be no new US routes this Summer, but 2005 should be different, because the new US/EU bilateral should be in place, which will allow new flights to be introduced . . . we hope.

We are hoping for EK to begin services this year.

Maybe EI might consider an SA route this year; personally, I don't put much hope in these new South African carriers. I'd prefer EI (or better still, SAA itself!)

Kaitak,

So does that mean that romours on AerLingus adding Miami and San Francisco are false?
I was really hoping they´d start these routes.

Regards,
Dani

They're not false Dani, just happening later than we hoped. EI has expressed a wish to serve these and many other North American cities, but the obstacle is the Irish/US bilateral and the Irish government's insistence on tying capacity from Dublin to capacity from SNN. We expect this matter to be sorted out this year and hopefully, new US flights can begin next Summer.
