LOTs Boeing 767's

Wed Feb 25, 2004 1:11 pm

Does anyone think that LOT should get new aircrafts. Somewhere along the lines of a 777 *wishful thinking*. I mean...consider the hours on those puppies. They've been almost on every continent. And the fly 10 hours at least 4 times a day. Last time I flew on LOT was this summer and the age of the interior is very well seen. The old seats, tray tables busted, bad video screens and cameras.

Its a great airline...but would love to see a brand spanking new Boeing or Airbus flying to ORD. But I do know tht they spent money on buying the new ERJ's....what are they? The -180's?

I totally agree. LOT is one of my favorite airlines in Europe. I flew them last year ORD - WAW - BUD. But they definately need some new 767's. Sure, being the national airline of Poland, they don't have a while ton of money, but...I think they can afford something like maybe some new 767's or A310's. But I guess they know best.

I've flown LOT myself, and indeed, those 767's don't seem to ever have a break. Of course, considering the horror stories I've heard from people flying other airlines that put lots of mileage on their planes, LOT's 767 fleet seems a lot better off.

Some new aircraft would be nice, but LOT would do better to just show those aircraft a little more TLC.

I flew on SP-LOB ORD-WAW and SP-LPA WAW-ORD in March 2003, and altho the planes werent "new" they did the job....Boeing builds planes to last....heck British Airways had flown their 747-100s from the early 1970s until maybe what 1999 or 2000?? So SP-LOA and LOB their two oldest are only about 15 years old.....they have another 15 at least to go!!!!

We have to stop thinking that airplanes are as disposable as plastic cups.
Good maintenence is the key to getting the years out of planes that they are built for. Besides hours on the airframe arent as stressful as pressure cylces from a lot of takeoffs and landings.

Yes, I would love to see a LOT 777 or 744 used from ORD to Warsaw, I am confidennt that they could actually fill it!!! Lets Just keep hoping that their capacity will grow to warrent the larger equipment, but be thankful for what they have to offer.

By the way LOT's service was top notch and all the F/A's were friendly and helpful and I would fly them again in a heartbeat!!!

LOT's going to be a little busy bringing its new EMB-170s on to property in the near future. I think LOT can wait for the 7E7 before replacing its current long haul fleet.

talking about BA operating those 747-136s all that time, MEA operated 707's and 720's all the way until 1998 or so...thats pretty amazing too.

A332 or, if they can wait, 7E7 would be perfect for them.

Bit of a Boeing stalwart traditionally aren't they?

I've never flown any LOT 767 but both 145 (BUD-WAW) and 737 (WAW-BCN). The 145 was great but I guess they are relatively new. The 737 gave an old impression.

Didn't BWIA lease one of LOT's B767-300s, due to aircraft shortage (financing problems delayed second A340 delivery). Anyway the B767 was used on the Caribbean to London and Manchester routes. Apparently the deal was cancelled due to technical problems with the aircraft and passenger complaints about the aircraft's interior.

On the issue of replacement, I think they will go for the 7E7 for two reasons:
1. The B777 and A330 have much larger capacity which the airline may not need.
2. Another post in the forum suggests the new 7E7 will only cost $125 million, so besides the fact it would meet their seat capacity requirement and offer better efficiency, the price is brilliant.

LOT problem with the long-haul fleet is that 5 767 that they have is not enough in the summer but it's way to much in the winter.

The plans were to replace them within 4 years so A332 seems to be obvious choice, but in case of delay 7E7 could be also an option.

Actually 777s might not be such a bad option. In terms of revenue LOT makes up for the low bookings by hauling a lot of cargo during the off-season winter months. The 777s would give them more cargo capacity. A LOT 777 into O'Hare, preferably with a new livery, would make a great sight.

777 is an unrealistic dream. Let me just say that Embraers 170 are replacing 737s right now there is no growth tendency.

LOT's 767s are not fully utilised. For example today, there were 4 !! of them sitting in front of the hangars. Shame.

Yes BWIA leased 763s from LOT. Also AeroSvit leased one. And there's ex LOT SP-LLB currently flying as UR-VVH, leased from LOT.

Daniel,

LOT bought ERJ-170 with the main reason to replace ATR72s in some markets, and to reduce capacity in some European destinations. You probably saw the changes from WAW to AMS instead of regular 737 they will send ERJ-170, they did it because they need bigger aircrafts (like 737s) to support charter work to Southwest Europe and Northern Africa. B767 is too big for some charters, some European destinations have 737s with too many empty seats and to make it even they will shift 737s to do most charters, and add additional capaticy replacing ATR-72s with ERJ-170.

Take care,

Flying LOT over the past 5 years ive noticed a HUGE increase in passengers. Their winter and summer flights are almost always fully loaded. A 777 would be a great choice.

As someone has posted, filling the 767 is a lot of work during the off season months. Getting an even bigger aircraft would cause a problem.

I have flown on LOT Polish Airlines Boeing 767-200ER/300ER and they definitely need to take care of them better.

Some seat pockets are broken, or just non-existent.

Some seats do not function properly and are not able to be returned to the upright position.

The panels are all yellow and disgusting from the days when people could smoke onboard.

Some of the projectors and monitors don't work.

The list goes on and on. With a bit of care, these aircraft could be like new, unfortunately this is not the case.

Unfortunately I'll most likely be travelling on one of these aircraft again on my trip to Poland in the summer. I doubt anything has changed from two years ago, and if it has, probably to worse.

Lindy - you're right about their original intension. However things changed and 170s will take over 735 routes. Most of the leases for 735 are ending this year and these planes will be phase out. Sad.
I haven;t seen any AT7 route changed to E70. And thats what they should do. Flying to FRA or MUC on old AT7 is a pain.
