The New Braniff

What happened to the re-incarnated Braniff? I know they had A320's but what happened? Did they go bankrupt or are the operating little planes in remote cities?

Braniff II ceased ops in or around August 1990.
According to sources on this forum, the A320's went to America West.
There was a short lived Braniff III that flew until about Summer 1992, they too ceased ops. I believe they flew 727's.

Somewhat off topic, but has anyone else seen the tv show South Park? There's always a little Braniff airplane flying through at the end of the show... as though they are a sponsor. Is there another reincarnation of Braniff on the horizon?

The A320's went to Braniff II which had hubs in MCO and MCI at the time. They folded about 2-4 days after the first 2 A320's came in... They flew BAC1-11's, 737-200's, 737-300's,727-200's and the A320's. The payment on the A320's was more than the fledgling airline could afford while attempting massive growth at the same time. They at one time had the majority of gates in Term 1 and 2 at MCI and flew out of 14 gates at MCO. They were started by the Chicago Pritzer family (Hyatt hotels) and merged in Florida Express airlines (hence the BAC1-11's and MCO hub). Moved their hub from DFW to MCI in exchange for several perks from AA. The night that they filed bankruptcy protection Crandell sent his mechanics in from OKC to repossess the P&W JT8's that they were leasing off their 727's and 737's before the engines got tied up in bankruptcy court. That was technically illegal but, AA got away with it and effectively killed any chance BN had to restart... (ie lots of aircraft sitting at MCI with no engines or only 1 or 2 out of three ....)

Hope that helps
