The BoneYard

Anybody give me some insight on to where the best boneyard is at? Some Pilots and A&P's are looking at taking a trip. Anywhere tours and people are welcomed would be great!

Mojave, Victorville, Phoenix-Goodyear, Marana, Tucson Int'l would be the primary ones. Amarillo, Kingman, LAS have a few as well. A really good website exists on this topic at http://www.cactuswings.com.

Roswell-it is a huge airfield with a wide assortment-somewhat accessible for touring. There are commuter flights into ROW, but may be costly. Perhaps can go to ABQ or AMA and rent car-about 3hrs either direction. Once you enter Roswell you can see AC tails-just drove towards them. I spent about an hour driving slowly around the perimiter and then parked and took pix over/through fence. In Spring 2002 were lots of 727's, ATA L10's NW D10's, Atlas+Polar 747's, Emery DC8's, Arrow/Fine Dc8 + L1011's. I think 200+ large jets in total. Also lots of various L10's, (Rich Intl), and BA 747-100's. I highly recommend.

Also Ardmore, OK, (just 90 miles S. of OKC), is where lots of planes were scrapped, however operator Aviation Sales was taken over a couple years ago and don't know if they have any additions or if most of AC has been totally scrapped.
