Nordam Lands Big Airbus Contract

Nordam lands big Airbus contract

Tulsa aerospace giant Nordam just won a big contract; one could even call it a "super-jumbo" contract.

News on 6 business reporter Steve Berg says the contract is for the new Airbus A-380, which is sometimes called a "super-jumbo" jet. Nordam will be the exclusive supplier for all the cabin and door windows in the A-380. Those windows are manufactured right here in Tulsa.

The A-380 is the largest commercial aircraft ever built. It has about 250 windows or more, "per" plane. That's twice as many as the average-sized aircraft. So it's the sheer number of windows per plane that makes it such a lucrative contract for Nordam.

Airbus has just started production on the aircraft, and Nordam officials say it already looks like it will be a big seller. Bob Brooks with Nordam’s Transparency Division: "they've got 130 airplanes sold, so it's a major contract. They're working on airplane number one and number two right now, so it's got a lot of years to go."

Nordam does not expect to increase jobs in the short term. The big planes take a "long" time for Airbus to build, so Nordam officials say they can maintain the window supply with their current workforce. But it's a contract that has huge benefits for the health of this Tulsa-based company.

Hi, I was just wondering if KKmolokai was Steve Berg? Because I also live in Tulsa, and actually know the family who owns Nordam. This is one impressive contract. Boeing just announced that the wing section of the new 7E7 jetliner will also be built in Tulsa, adding thousands of jobs. These events are impressive in that they secure Tulsa's place in the aviation arena for years to come.

Do you think that any new flights will come about in the near future? AA to NYC or MIA, or restarting the successful MD80 flight to LAX or STL? AS to SEA for Boeing? Any new airlines, ie Frontier?

Stock1985,

I have no clue who Steve Berg is. I cut/paste the article from the KOTV6 News website.
