I'm just happy the whole discussion about United's new livery has died down.
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

Hey, this topic is fine, not only is it interesting it brings a lot of the world's 747's to light. For the record United's livery is horrible which is no surprise I think their planes have been ugly since the beginning. As for the topic if you are not interested don't read it, I think it's great.

Ok ok ok....Gate Gourmet does have the best livery...oooh how I get goosebumps when I see them up next to our 757 unloading peanuts  Big thumbs up

UAL's new livery sucks without a red pinstripe....'nuff said!

Azmi i know you aren't serious but how do you like KUL's airport taxi? I think it's fancy enough to be copied to an aircraft. Catering truck anyone? Big grin

I think the guys here running airliners.net should open up some specialty discussion forums within a.net's aviation overall forum listings to accomodate all the things like liveries etc... Perhaps they could make a forum for;

Airline images - a place where anything related to liveries and marketing can be discussed.. people would be able to have all the "Best livery on a ___" discussions they want and people wanting to participate can get their fix easily enough.

Airline route & aircraft expansion - where discussion would focus only on aircraft acquisitions or decommissions and route expansion or contraction.

aircraft manufacturer discussion board - where everything Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Embraer, McDonnel Douglas, Fokker, ATR, Avro, BAe, Aerospatiale, Ilyshun, Tupelov and whatever else is left could be discussed.

Then a general aviation forum with these topics excluded.. this way no one would be tripping on anyone's toes. It would be easier to find already discussed topincs so discussions wouldn't be repeating themselves over an over again. Lastly if your particular thing is one of these general headings then you can get all the other stuff out of the way and focus on what you really like...

just my $0.02 CDN cents.

The livery threads are not discussions. Everyone posts some Images and thats all. Its more a kind of galery than a discussion.

Next time we will be asked wich grass is greener ? AMS, CDG, YUL or LAXBig grin

Greenest grass? Has to be Shannon, being on the Emerald Isle. Manaus has deforestation to blame, or else it could have been the greenest. The worst is probably Riyadh, being in the middle of the desert  Big grin

We could try a "who has the best post-tailstrike livery on a DC-9 with a catering truck that has a "pretty" FA driving the truck" in the same shot photo thread

As one who started a thread asking what features of liveries makes them effective, I was dissapointed to find the vast majority of replies were simply a laundry list of favorites (predictably nationalistic). So, I'm glad Spaniards like Iberia, Italians like Alitalia, and the dutch like KLM. Now that we have that settled, we might as well move on as Delta Guy suggests (unless someone else wants to post another "fly, widget, fly"!!!!

There are no fewer than 22 current discussions of liveries on a.net civil aviation board right now!!! Virtually all of them started by 15-20 year olds. Does anyone else think that perhaps this topic needs to be moved to its own forum for teenage enthusiasts to speculate their hearts out? I don't mind a serious airline marketing discussion amongst industry professionals, but a never ending stream of "best livery on a xxxx" is really annoying. It seems like this board is being hijacked by teenagers with a pointless adolescent obsession.

PA110 - we were all 14 once. Being an aviation enthusiast is basically a teenage obsession that most of us haven't grown out of. Yes, to have a thread for liveries on every single individual aircraft type is a little inane, but we don't have to read them.

JGPH1A,
Some of us joined a.net to participate discussions with fellow industry colleagues on current commercial aviation matters. I don't wish to discourage young aviation enthusiasts, I'm merely suggesting that we give them a forum all to themselves, where their interests can be fully pursued without cluttering up the board. Likewise, it might be just as fair to give industry employees their own board.

PA110,

what does being 15-20 have to do with professional? I agree that all the livery topics and going a little overboard and im 16 myself,
I thinks t unfair that you judge by age. Age has nothing to do aviation, we are all at different levels of profession weather being 10 or 40!

Kaz,
you better quit while you're behind. At 16, you haven't entered a "profession" and you had better learn the difference between whether and weather.
... and "Professional" means working in the airline/travel industry.

Being a retired professional designer, some former livery topics seemed of interest so I tried to contribute with (what I thought was) "informed" opinions on graphics, colors, etc. As above-mentioned, the subject has deteriorated to "just trying to make a post" and I don't even open the topics up anymore; this specific Topic Title got me curious, though.

Maybe I have the correct idea? Don't even open the topic if you aren't interested. My airline hobby is building scale model airliners and collecting vintage travel agency propliner models, but the hobby forum seems to be 99% flight-sim topics, so I rarely even visit that forum. No problem, there are other sites that cater better to my interests. Kind regards...Jack

So my question is very simple now :

What should be the content of the a.net forum ? (I fully agree that the best xxx livery post is becoming boring.) Are there changes to be made ??

PA110

sorry I have a problem with spelling (get them mixed up sometimes)

anyway, why should I quit? At 18 I have already completed a course on flying and many other aviation involvement. If you cant call flying solo (which I will be soon) a profession then you must be very hard to impress.

and say that someone gets into aviation at the age of 25, does that make them automatic more professional than a 17 year old that has been into aviation for 5-6 years?

well this is off topic so I will end it there

Come on be easy on the kid. While many people that join this forum may not fit your definition of professional, we all are enthusiasts. I know at 15 I was already working at the airport and whether or not I had something to contribute to the comunity at that age, I certainly felt privalaged to be part of it.

For the record, Delta Global Services needs a livery change.

Kaz,
It seems that spelling isn't your only problem. You seem to be suffering from accellerated aging as well. In reply #22, you were only sixteen, and in reply #26, you're suddenly eighteen. Keep this up, and you will have retired before this thread goes much further. Sorry, I couldn't resist. You set yourself up for it.

My whole point is that perhaps "Civil Aviation" is too broad a topic for a forum, and given the diversity of participants, perhaps there should be a few more specific forums. Again, I do not want to discourage young people from participating. I've been an airline geek from as early as I can remember. Its just that I'm older now, and want to have conversations with those who are amongst my colleagues, and can share professional insights. I think this can be achieved without discriminating against anyone. We just need to expand the number of forums.

Good question, Myk, I've shoulder surfed here for years before finally pulling the trigger and posting myself, but I think the format is a bit unwieldy. I'd personally advocate a vBulletin board here, where we can start a bunch of categorized threads, instead of the myriad of individual threads.

We get a lot of redundancy here because of that, IMO.  Smile

I haven't read the rest of the posts in this thread, but threads like this come around every now and then - not often. They quickly die down though. More irritating are the ones that have the subject line like "Airline's on now!". Just wait a few days, I bet they're all gone, the novelty will have worn off.

Why not make Airline Liveries it's own forum? It seems to be an ongoing passion not only amongst the younger members of the forum, but also amongst the pro/anti forces of every airline that has every changed its livery. Open up a forum specific to airline liveries, and let them all go for it!

Also a best/worst category. Then everyone who has two cents to spare can comment on best/worst flight, food, flight attendant, airline, airplane, landing, takeoff, etc...

And lastly, a forum dedicated exclusively to everything concerning Northwest's DC9's.

It'll blow over! The main page has got longer recently, so you can find more of what you do like, and less of what you don't.
