Window Cheat Line Liveries: Comeback Or Not?

Mon Mar 01, 2004 8:07 pm

The trend of bowed lines in livery-world is very good and nice (look at BMI, Monarch, PIA, EL AL, Gulf Air and for example defunct VG Airlines). Next to this trend there are many ugly liveries nowedays. Should it not be time again for the comeback of the window cheatline? I think it's time but it have to be smartly done like the former UPS-livery. Many Russian/CIS airlines have still a cheatline; they look oldfashioned. But this UPS...it's nice and modern because of it's simplicity and right colour combination. Pitty they trashed it. What do you think? How would Air France look like with a smart cheatline or Luxair again (they trashed their cheatline recently). It breaks the "Euro-white"-trend.

The "test" of an additional grey cheatline was conducted after the merging with UTA in 1992 on some a/c (B744, B732, B762 ) but was not finally adopted.

Hmmm, interesting. Strange additional grey colour. Despite the grey bellies the cheatline looks nice at the 737 and 767. On the 747 it is a bit too fat. Again, interesting!

Isn't it ironic that the operator who's window cheatline you like the best uses aircraft with no windows?

Good observation and sense of humor, Andz. As far as the topic is concerned I am big fan of cheatline liveries and would really love to see the concept coming back. Airliners look very smart and classy in cheatline liveries.

It needs some little more time and the window cheatline will certainly return.

"Next to this trend there are many ugly liveries nowedays."

I agree completely. Just about all the newer liveries today (barring a few exceptions) are mostly white with a dash of paint here and a dash there- lacking any imagination whatsoever. Is there some sort of "paint crisis" going on that the rest of us don't know about?
The cheatline was classic, and I agree with AirOrange, it's only a matter of time before they make a comeback.

The TG cheatline is ok - the rest are better off without it, IMHO

I love cheat lines all though I would say that some of them were a bit boring. Nonetheless, anything looks better than the all white jobs on many airliners today.

One of the all time great cheat lines. A timeless color scheme.

TAME is suffering an identity crisis as they are changing their livery over and over. I think it are the horrible "fat parrot" brand symbol (logo) and typography that hurt the airline over and over. Their basic colourschemes are pretty good. Especially their window cheat line version and their latest eye-brow livery. It's an airline with guts but they need to upgrade their logo.

The SAA eye brow livery looks good too!

My 'wife' categoricaly told me that aeroplanes are white. Cheatlines were the brand.
