Delta Plane Hit By Fuel Truck At SFO

Tue Mar 02, 2004 5:46 am

I was just told by a Horizon Air Captain that a Delta plane was hit by a fuel truck here at SFO. After a little site seeing sure enough. A 757 is sitting in the alley with the fuel truck next to the front right side. Fire department and Air Field Ops is on location. Its a ASIG fuel truck. Let you know when I hear more. DeltaSFO, I hope you are not at work.

The lastest at 1250p local is the alley is still blocked. There are 6 Fire traucks on seen and some firefighters are in chemical suits. Looks like no passengers have been deplaned as of yet. Weather is mist and rain with overcast. Rain may have played a factor, we shall see. I spoke with a friend at Air Canada and both of there flights are stuck at the gates. There is no way for them to get out. Also DL has one plane at gate 40 which will be unable to leave.

Hope the damage isn't serious. Thanks for informing me about this mini-catastrophe.

...And.....??

This is nothing new. I can't tell you the number of aircraft that I have done 'road trips' for, or have worked on that have been smacked into by some sort of ground service equipment. It always amasses me the amount of stupidity that some people have when around an aircraft.

EMBBQA..well sorry I dissappoint you. Some do care. So how about you don't respond if you don't care or think its a deal.No need to be an A..
lan767....I have no camera today and can't see the side of the A/C that was hit from my vantage point. The A/C is N678DL. Let you know what I hear or see.

I'm just speaking the truth. This happens WAY more then the average public thinks it does. I was just given a disk loaded with pictures of a brand new ERJ that someone taxied through a closed hanger door. Result....DBER-Scraped...Then there was the ramp agent that got pissed off and drove a tug into one of our planes, then there was the mail cart that was not latched correctly, broke loose and smashed into on of our planes and hit it so hard, it threw the F/A down on the ground and she was taken away in an ambulance. It took two months to get the plane back one line.......my list goes on, as will anyone that has worked as a mechanic with an airline.

Well - there are a lot of us who are not mechanics, don't hear about this and would be interested.

ASSFO - any updates? Do you know the flight? I checked DL's website and didn't see any hugely delayed 757 flights.

Yes buddy. I work for an airline and have been at SFO for 8 years. I work right next to our mechanics. They were out watching also. I know it happends a lot. Someone out there may want to know. I would give a rats rear end how much you care and how many disk of pics you have. This forum is for airline info and for aviation lovers. A spotter here may want a pic. I person with DL back east may wonder what happend to their plane. So how about you let people start a thread about some current info and if you don't like the subject, don't read or respond. Feel free to keep your comments to yourself, nothing wrong with that!
Back to the subject despite EM's comments. The fuselage of the plane looks like it has a whole in it from what an observer said. I'm going ot get more info in a few hours.

SkyChefs drove a truck "through" an L-1011 a few years ago. The plane is now parked. Totalled. Driver fell asleep at the wheel.

EMBQA, .... I was just given a disk loaded with pictures of a brand new ERJ that someone taxied through a closed hanger door...

Was it one of those evil ramp agents that taxied that plane into the hangar door? Or was it maybe one of your flawless mechanics?

If you're talking about the E135 that went through the hangar door at CMH, that was at the maintenance facility after a runup.

Aside from employees or passengers being injured or God forbid killed, aircraft damage is the last thing I ever like to see on the ramp. I don't care what airline it happens to, I feel their pain.
