1994 Runway Collision Of TW MD80 And Twin In STL

Tue Mar 02, 2004 10:59 am

I am wondering if anyone knows of any pictures of this specific accident in STL in 1994 involving a TWA MD-80 N954U and the twin cessna N441KM. The MD-80 was cleared for takeoff while the twin cessna taxied into the wrong runway. I have found all the information I need on this but have had no luck finding any aftermath photos. Another reason this interests me is because I have been flying on N954U a lot lately im curious as to how badly this aircraft was damaged.
Thanks in advance

The NTSB report at doesn't seem to have any photos, and only makes mention (page 4) of major damage to the right wing, including the main gear and fuselage, about $1.7M worth, I think.

Searching for TWA 427 (the flight number) yields hits for US427, the 737-400 at PIT, along with TW800, and way too many to sort through.

I think your best shot would be contacting the local STL paper (Post-Dispatch) and seeing what they have to offer. Either that, or maybe one of the local TV stations...

I thought it was landing?? yeah the cessna turned to take off and then the plane came in from behind and drgage dit over the runway.

Good things come to those who wait, better things come to those who go AFTER it!

The MD-80 was on takeoff roll. The Cessna was coming out of Midcoast and taxied across what was then 13-31 onto 30R. Smash. Nobody on the TWA aircraft was hurt, and all on the Cessna were killed. I have seen some pictures of the aircraft, most were in the CFR station though. If you're in St. Louis, try the fire department, if their archives are open to the public you should find a few pictures. I sure can't

Def. contact the post-dispatch to get a reprint of the front page. Go to and find some contacts and ask for the archives. It'll probably cost you a bit plus postage.
