Internship With LH

Thu Mar 04, 2004 6:42 am

I am going to be starting a 3 week high school internship with LH at TXL. Does any body have any idea what interns generally do? What kind of jobs do they give interns?

Thanks,
AL

I can imagine that your job will look like this:

  • serving coffee to your boss

  • going to the bakery to buy breakfast for your colleagues

  • calling the pizza delivery service an hour before the lunch break

  • doing all the work that the others don't want to do
  •  Big grin

Why are you doing this internship in Berlin and not in Frankfurt?
All the important departments are here in FRA.
    Cheers

Hey, don't worry, it was meant as a joke! Show them that you are interested in aviation, I am sure they will show you a few interesting things than.

When my boss send interns to me, I always asked for their interests and I even made always a ramp tour with them.

A tip: don't complain, even when you must do boring or stupid work, maybe you will get the chance to work there after you finished high-school when they see you are interested in this kind of job!

    Have fun during your internship!

Hey Airberlin if by internship you mean "work experience" (thats what we call it in UK) I did mine with BA at ABZ and i got involved in turn rounds, Basic checks etc, just familiarised with a/c types, but at my work now (major offshore helicopter operator) we often have young guys in on work experience at weekends and we try to get them involved in major jobs, be it they clean components for us but they still get to see the guts of the beast and how it comes apart and goes together so there is great, priceless experience there be it looking and learning, cleaning or getting a job to do.

PS im talking from an Engineering perspective  Big thumbs up

I did my 12-month Engineering internship with fellow Star Alliance member AC at first based in YVR and then transferred to YUL.

It was actually extremely interesting and rewarding as you are in charge of specific shops support... Investigations, maintenance programs, unusual repair procedures, OEM contact...
In my case, I had Mechanical systems (Wheels, Brakes, Safety equipment and Landing Gear).
Keep hope, they are some fantastic opportunities out there.

FraT: I would really rather do my internship at FRA, being that TXL has to be one o the worst airports in central europe, but I live in Berlin and I doubt that LH will fly me to FRA every morning  Big grin
I'm sure will find something interesting for me to do.

    Thanks,

    Hi AirBerlin,
do you know in which department you are going to work?
I did an intership with Lufthansa Cityline last year at their headquaters at CGN.
Most of the time I had to sort incoming mail and deliver it to all the different departments within the headquaters. I was a lot of fun though, because I got some inside in Fleet and Crew dispatching, company management and aircraft maintenance.
I don't know what you will be able to see in TXL, but I am sure it will be quiet an experience.

    Have fun

    Good for you AirBerlin!
I was planning to do one of my mandatory internships at City Air at FMO. Sadly they went belly up just this week (at least officially). Now i have to look for something else in FMO or DTM.

Try it at this airline in DTM, I forgot their name despite it was my former employer, I only know that they lost their own identity and that their CEO is the lackey of Wolfgang Mayrhuber Big grin.

I did an internship with LH in 1996. They were very kind and tried to send me to every department, from logistic, to special aid, information counter etc... I had a lot of fun since they were very engaged and happy to introduce you in aviation... entering planes, talking to pilots... etc. have fun!

Btw, I was in FRA, which was a big advantage. Having lived in Berlin, I can understand your doubts about TXL!

    BUT HAVE FUN!  Smile

Air Berlin- I envy you! I tried getting one with Varig and they gave me the finger (in portuguese). I hoped to have one with Sol Air but didnt happen and I also found out US Airlines only give internships to people with aviation related majors.

Well that is a good point. But that "unknown" airline also has an office at FMO.
But if you can enlighten me on how long it actually takes from the train station to DTM, I might think about going there.
LH does have a route management section at FMO though. And that's pretty much what I am interested in.

But if you can enlighten me on how long it actually takes from the train station to DTM, I might think about going there.

You are in luck, today I heard that Dortmund Airport is going to introduce a shuttle bus between Dortmund main station and the airport (a 20 minute ride, from the airport terminal you have to take another shuttle bus to the administration building of the unknown airline, another 2 minute ride) but it would be way more comfortable than the current situation is, at the moment you have to take a regional train from Dortmund main station to Dortmund-Holzwickede station, from there the shuttle bus to the airport terminal and from there the shuttle bus to the administration building, too complicated and time-consuming in my opinion.

It would be more comfortable for you to come by car but to be honest, it is a long way from Münster to Dortmund and I can imagine that there are a lot of traffic jams on the A43 and especially on the B1 (I have a lot experience with horrible traffic jams on that route, especially during the morning and afternoon hours  Angry).

I don't know in which department you want to do your internship but I know that a lot of departments moved away from the base in Dortmund, if you are interested in a special job, you should call them and ask if it is still posible to do it there.

Feel free to contact me by eMail if you have further question.

Not exactly an internship, but I read in Your profile, that You live here...did You ever hear of the German university system, especially our BA? You could study Bachelor of Business within 3 yrs, half of it working in a company. LH offers awesome BA programmes, so check their sites for this!

I made an internship in an industrial company, started with copying too, but they gave me good stuff from the beginning on...now, still student, I'm sorta personal assistant to our main department head of materials management and logistics...2 yrs to go until graduation...so I think, there are good possibilities, to enter good work. Actually, here in Germany, interns are well appreciated, more than those on training. You will have a great time!

    Thanks a lot!
I should have specified that I wanted to know how the connections between Holzwickede and the airport are since there is a direct train connection between Muenster HBF and there.

I will see what I can do at FMO first and if there is nothing there I will let you know.
     Big thumbs up

Perfect that there is a direct train connection between Münster and Holzwickede, the shuttle from HoWi to the airport runs every 15 minutes between (I am not 100% sure) 5:00h and 22:00h.

I wish you luck, either in FMO or in DTM.
