If You Had Your Own Airline...

Thu Mar 04, 2004 11:08 am

Are you convinced that you could build a global airline empire if you could control aircraft types, service levels, destinations etc. Shed your thoughts about your own potential airline. What would you call it? Where/what would it fly? and what would its slogan be? Remember it is a difficult time and environment to work in so how would you get people to fly with your airline. I would love to hear your thoughts.

I would call it Supid Airliners Net Posts Ever Airlines and it would fly Cessna 150s equippted with 20 seats from LCY to LHR on a twice daily basis...

I think I will do it on the low cost carrier principe, so there will be no inflight entertainment, no window shades, no food of course, no toilets, no flight attendant, no co pilot, and we will only do one-gear lanings to save up the tires... Saving a lot of money without these things

In a perfect world:

I'd have my airline based in the caribbean. Preferably mainline operations based on St. Croix (bigger airport), Headquatered on St. Thomas. I would go head to head and win against AA and the other majors. Provide inter-island service using Dash-8Q400's and Regional Jets (either CRJ's or ERJ's) all along the caribbean from MIA to Venezuela. Use A319's and A320's for regional routes to the US, Central and South America. These aircraft would only have an economy layout, but offer better seats, seat pitch and legroom. 757's for the higher yielding local routes, as well as medium to long haul. These aircraft (and larger) will offer a first class section comparable to many international carriers like Emirates, etc. 767's and 777's connecting the Americas, Asia (via polar routes) and Europe. I want some service to every major city in Europe. I would keep the fares low to entice John Q Public to consider using St. Croix as a connecting city to another destination. Mainly North-South routes. South American passengers to Europe would work as well. Offer incentives to have a 2-3 day layover. Full frill, no low cost stuff at all, like paying on board for meals. Any flight longer than 2 hours, passengers would be offered a meal. Different dishes from the caribbean would be offered, to give people a taste of the caribbean, even if they are just traveling through. PTV's, the best out there. 100's of movie selections and a customizable music selection from a database containing 1000's of songs (as each person has their own tastes). I haven't decided whether or not to offer alcoholic beverages. As I see the point that if there were an emergency (God forbid) I would want everyone sober and alert to obey commands. I have had a lot of trouble coming up with the best name. Royal Caribbean is taken by the cruise company. Caribbean Gold is nice. Caribbean World is taken, I think. Not sure. Our motto: Opening up the World to the Caribbean.

Again, in a perfect world.

Name: Cloud Nine Airways
It would be based out of Washington Dulles Airport  Smile since its centrally located relative to the major north eastern cities, BOS, NYC, PHL etc....

The fleet would consist of a mixed Boeing and Regional jet service...

Long Haul: 777-300 for long, dense routes. 777-200LR, 767-300.

Medium Haul: All 757-200

Short-Haul: All 737NGs

Ultra-short / Commuter: ERJ-135/145's.

Other Hubs would be in San Fransisco, Orlando and San Juan

MAJOR focus would be on European destinations, like London, Paris, and Madrid, but with more emphasis even on 'secondary' markets, like Milan, Athens, Prague, Stockholm, and Brussels.

Also, services to the caribbean, with the ERJ's serving inter-island routes, as well as hub and spoke to the islands from SJU.

Domestic service would be less, since the major carriers make it tough to break into those markets, but I would hope to fly IAD- SFO and SFO -Western major cities, even some in Asia like HKG, NRT...

The real beauty would be the in-flight services. No more pretzels and soda. Fresh Fruit, Cheese, wool blankets, and more legroom would be just the beginning. Long Haul flights would of course have PTV's in coach, along with all the inflight entertainment. Satellite TV similar to JetBlue would be available. Leather and Cloth seats, in Navy blue with light grey (almost white)trim would be the colors. No cheesy patterns on the chairs, simple solid blocks of color. Curved lines, to ease the eye. Mini- Xenon lighting systems for reading, and a small cooler under the seat to store one or two small mini-cans of soda or food. Seats could be ventillated or heated, to the persons choice... (often too hot or cold for pax). Aluminum trim for a modern look.

Exterior colors would be a Dark Blue Belly, with a grey "ribbon" stripe that straps around the nose, (doesnt end at the nose), and around the fuselage two times, up onto the rudder forming the "9". White top, and Large, Dark Blue Letters that fade as they go down the fuselage. The dot on the I would be a small light grey cloud. Engines would be Grey fading to white, with a "c9" written on the sides. Winglets would have a small cloud on them also.

-AA777.
