Routes That MEA Should Open And MEA Interiors

Fri Mar 05, 2004 5:20 am

Many of you have said that we won't here any more big news from MEA untill it is privateized.
Well, lets see what routes MEA should open and could make profit off of.
I know a lot of you like to live in the realistic world but come on, playalong

And does anyone have news on MEA aircraft interior. any changes? Any thing? photos? Anything?!?!?!?!?!

I wish to see ME in KUL since many middle eastern airlines are present here. We have EK, GF, QR, SV, RJ, IY, MS (c/s), IR & TK - but not ME & KU.

Yeah MEA does have a lack of long range flights.
I guess the only one is GRU which will be coming up very soon.
They need to open Hong Kong or KUL or Bangkock or Singapore so they could get the pax going on to Austraila

If some of the always-rumoured routes like GRU, YUL and Australia became true, that would already be a big step forward! This is wishful thinking already, but to see them coming back in strenghts to all the major global hubs in the next 18-24 months is an illusion (unfortunately...)

I would like to see them back in OZ, but I can't see it happening. With such Middle Eastern airlines like, Emirates soon to be double daily into Sydney and Melbourne soon and Gulf Air flying daily into Sydney and rumours of Qatar's entry into the Australian market, there doesn't seem any room for MEA to come back.

Zizou - MEA flew to Australia years ago.
Unfortunately the Aussie-Market is not a good deal for Airlines from Europe and maybe that's the reason they won't fly there in the future. Would love that too.

QR into australian market? Sounds GREAT!

Maybe, in 2005 the could re-start the Aussie market with a 345 or a 330 via KUL. Has CX or ME done anything about re-starting the code-share?

are you people smoking? BEY-DXB-KHI? KUL? these flights will get killed unless MEA develops a hub at BEY. Even with the hub BEY-DXB-KHI will get killed. KHI is a lousy market for most carriers - the yields are GHASTLY.

interiors are great, but need a LOT more pitch in business class.

This is slightly off topic, does anyone have the sitting plans of MEA's older planes? I'm mostly interested in the 707s, 310s and the 300s but anything older than thses will be a real treat.

Thanks.

Hi BEYw/MEA,

I know about Wassim's great site but does he have the seating plans for the older MEA aircraft? It was only a short time ago that the A300/310 were on the official MEA website.
Hope someone has it.

Thanks.

OD720,

I do not know about the MEA 707s, I never had a chance to ride on it.

The Airbus 300 and 310 for MEA both had a similar layout. It was a 2 - 4 - 2 abreast in economy. In front class it was 2 - 2 - 2 I believe. I dont remember for sure.

The A310 and A300 did have 2-4-2 in eco and 2-2-2 in Front (there was no cedar class) just like MEA321 said.

Thanks for that. I guess I meant the configuration, the number of seats in C and Y.

My fault, I wasn't too clear. Sorry that this is going off topic.

Best regards.

OD720, in my experiences with MEA 707's I'd say that the interiors were really not standardized.

However I predict that the -320C's had approximately.........................(thinking)...........16 seats in C class. i doubt there were more than 4 rows, the seats were spaced out and there was TONS and TONS of legroom. Loud aircraft but bloody comfortable.

I guess my speculation doesn't really help you, OD720! you know, we could always take a fieldtrip to BEY and have a look at that 707 sitting on the side of the sea runway...

Lots of patriotic Lebanese here in Sydney and Melbourne, if they re-commenced services to Australia and offered reasonable airfares the airline would make a nice profit.

A Suggestion would be:

Twice a Week

Beirut - Kuala Lumpur - Sydney - Melbourne - Kuala Lumpur - Beirut.
Using an A330 or A340-500.

Hopefully MEA can come up with some kind of agreement with DL or CO once they join SkyTeam. If i'm not mistaken from a previous tread I read that US does not allow a Lebanese airline to use any american airport, and vice versa for american carriers. I dunno if this still stands. Anyway, it would be great to see EWR-BEY or ATL-BEY one day.

True KEno,

MEA is banned from flying to the US due to political reasons as we all know(been discussed in many threads),& so are the American carriers.
There has been talks between MEA & DL,maybe we'll see some results once MEA joins SkyTeam.

I think MEA should launch Beirut - Amsterdam - Manchester fights 3xweekly, Beirut - Munich flights 2x weekly, Beirut - Bahrain 3xweekly, and Beirut - Doha 3xweekly all flights A321 a/c.

I enjoyed MEA's Cedar Class service on a flight from FRA to BEY vv. in October. The A321 on the outbound was superb. You can't make a mid-range Business Class any better! The 320 on the way back still had the old configuration which was 2-2 as well but by far not as comfortable as the 321.

Don't know about the long haul aircraft, but the 321 provided by far enough leg room for a 3.5h + flight.

Re new routes: I think that MEA should see to increase frequencies rather than open new routes thatare only served twice a week. This is normally no interesting for business pax and they are the oney who pay the big $$$.

Cheers,
Tom

My waaaaay amateur spotting is done with a Sony DSC-S75 and a Minolta Maxxum 6 (SLR) with a 28-80 and a 70-300 lens.

No success with getting anything uploaded at a.net though  Smile

I tried 3 times to get a shot of the cedar class cabin on 3B-STI and F-OHLO (2x) but they wouldn't take it!!!!

ToBEYwithMEA, you seem to fly quite often, maybe you can give it a shot? Or anything else really.

Hey guys,

count me in for the spotting session. My dream would be to get back into those mighty 707's !!!

And it would be great to have a real MEA fan-club, recognized by MEA.

We could then get privilegied sessions and nice discounts  Smile

But hey, I'm REALLY serious about a meeting, say in July when most of the Lebanese abroad will be back.

Cheers !

Ts-ior,  Wow! this can work very well, guy... Tunis used to be served by Aeroflot with flights to GRU before.

MEA will surely launch services to Brazil, probably via Dakkar. MEA would get much passengers from Brazil if it flies to Morocco than flying via Dakkar. Morocco is a country which serves both interests: lebanese and brazilian; whilst senegal fits only lebanese interests... Brazil-Senegal trades are not as much as Brazil-Morocco would be. MEA's A332 can fly between Morocco and GRU without any restriction, since TAM's A332 in a likewise configuration flies between CDG and GRU.

These are routes in which MEA can work pretty good:

-> BEY-YUL-JFK;

-> BEY-GRU via whether RBA, FEZ, TUN or DKR;

-> BEY-HKG-SYD (Hong Kong is an alternative destination since KUL is already flown by Malaysia Airlines)

-> BEY-JNB-CPT;

-> BEY-PEK or NRT; (not sure if it is a good choice)

-> Some European cities have a good market for MEA too:
MAD, BCN, LYS, STO, ZRH, AMS, DUS.

-> Another very likely destination might be at CCS (Caracas - Venezuela): BEY-CCS-MIA, due to the large lebanese community that lives around Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico, Panama plus Caribbean tourism added to a Miami flight, which would allow Arab community in the USA southern area to have a link to Middle East.

If the political situation is settled, and MEA can serve the United States, I would say that IAD, MIA, ATL or ORD would be the best places to serve.

It would be very interesting too if MEA started flights to Baghdad;

What if there was these other two flights:

Beirut - Baghdad - Teheran
Beirut - Pakistan* - India**

* Karachi or Lahore
** Mumbai, Chennai or Delhi

by the way, it there can be flights between India and Pakistan, can't it?

In the US, MEA is interested in serving JFK and DTW because of the large Lebanese communities there.

MEA CEO Mohammad El-Hout is in Senegal right now with Lebanese Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri. They are discussing a number of diplomatic ties and starting direct flights between the two countries.
