Some 747 Facts...

Sat Mar 06, 2004 6:40 am

These facts are from the Boeing Magazine - Frontiers. They will be online when they update the website with for the March issue @

http://www.boeing.com/news/frontiers/qt_btn.html

But for now from the print version:

By The Numbers

Last month marker the 35th anniversary of the Boeing 747. The "Queen of the Skies" is not only the world's most recognizable commercial jetliner but also one that's contributed to making long-range non-stop travel affordable. To commemorate this anniversary here's a special 747-oriented By The Numbers.

1,341

Number of 747s Boeing has delivered to Date

75,000

Number of engineering drawing used to produce the first 747

35 Billion

Number or nautical miles (64.8 billion kilometers) 747s have flown since entering service in 1970. That's equivalent to 74,000 round trips to the Moon.

Just thought you guys/gals might like those.

I remember reading this Green Party leaflet some time ago that stated the fuel the 747 guzzles in one long-haul flight is enough to keep an average car running for 100 years !!!

Don't know whether this is true, but it makes you wonder about the effects these jets have on Mother Earth.

The 747 is truly the Queen of the Skies.

LONG LIVE THE 747!

Really Horus, we know that. But don't make me feel guilty for liking the 747 so much  Smile

The MIGHTY 747 has done one hell of a lot more for society and the common man than greenpeace will ever do. I am all for jacking up the price of auto gas so high that the yuppie scum in there hummers and massive SUVs will be forced into little toyotas and in my case, street legal golf carts, but the 747 has put the world at the grasp of the simple working man for people of all nations and economic strata. Air cargo used to be out of the question before the 747, and the refugee evacuations on these mighty ladies one time reached over 1100 on one El Al flight from Ethiopia (A world record) I have seen many incredible things come to pass in my lifetime, the roll out of the 747 and here 35 years later the faithful and thrifty service this jet still makes available to free people the world over is one of the truly great ones.

Ulfinator, this is the second thread today that you post exalting the enduring qualities of the 747 (both with very objective and independently verified data from Boeing's website!!!). I suggest you change your username to 7474EVER or something like that.

"I remember reading this Green Party leaflet some time ago that stated the fuel the 747 guzzles in one long-haul flight is enough to keep an average car running for 100 years !!!" Sure put Jet-A in your car and see just how long it is driveable.

I think the "green party" needs to do a little research into fuel cracking. Kerosene is a by product of refining gaoline, though that is a simplistic statement.

And this is the second time today that you, Regis, have tried in some way to either put down the 747 or start a flame war between Boeing and Airbus, and I'm sure others agree as well. This is simply a thread for promoting a timeless classic. The A380 may be a superior aircraft to the 747 in your eyes and in many others', but why do you insist on turning a perfectly innocent thread into an A vs B war? How would you feel it if you posted a thread highlighting the good qualities of the A380 and a bunch of Boeing lovers started bashing it and claiming its supposed inferiority to the 747? Let's all try to enjoy this forum instead of starting arguments at every chance we see. Yeah sure
