First GP7200 Engine Complete

Sun Mar 07, 2004 6:40 am

The first GP7200 engine, developed specifically for the A380 in a joint venture between GE and Pratt & Whitney, was completed on March 4, 2004. The GP7200 series is based on the GE90 and the PW4000.

The engine will begin sea level testing next week followed by altitude testing later this year.

truly impressive, especially the fan blade shape. you can hardly imagine the amount of brainpower and cpu time that it took to shape those things and find the current surely rather optimized shape.
