AA787, actually I've read several posts from people claiming to work for one or the other airline (and some from people where the claim is actually true) - yes, some airlines have had problems with the A340NGs, but it's somewhat of an open discussion whether these problems are worse than other introductions of new planes or not: and this is essentially something that only the airlines themselves will know.
Anyone who's ever spoken to other people about a subject will know that, even if they're trying to be objective, their own beliefs will most likely influence what they say.
So while the general consensus seems to be that CX
really does seem to be having more problems than necessary, I'd say that posters concerning IB
are divided 50:50 (while, at least in the more recent days and weeks, I haven't heard or read anything negative coming from the UK anymore), while for example posters from the direction of SA
seem to indicate that they're quite happy with them. I haven't read anything about LH
In the end I'd say that at least some things come from trumping up problems that were encountered while introducing a new aircraft into the fleet - which really isn't unique to the A340NGs (remember the posts about people fainting on KLM's new 777s?)...
As long as there are A vs B discussions (and I hope this one won't turn into one), there'll be people that'll "convert" a comment like "so far, the plane isn't doing 100% of what it's supposed to" into "Airline XYZ will return their new planes".
As frustrating as it might be, I guess we'll all just have to wait until one or the other airline really returns the planes - before that happens, most of the talk around here is nothing but (mostly unsubstantiated) rumors.
