Delta -88

Thu Jan 27, 2000 11:19 am

The dirtiest plane (inside and out) would have to be N800DE, a Delta MD-88 (The very first MD-88 ever); the flight was from Atlanta to Indianapolis! Everything (upholestry) was 80's looking inside!!!

Mine was on 4/10/96, a Kiwi B727-225, N8880Z, from ATL to MDW. Seats, windows, walls, everything inside was filthy. I never flew Kiwi again.

The dirtiest plane I flew on was a DL 727 from Charleston, SC to Atlanta two years ago. The seats were a dirty orange and it appeared as if the plane hadn't been cleaned after its last flight, as there was still trash inside the plane. The exterior wasn't too dirty 'tho...

The WORST plane I have ever seen was an HP 737-200 from PHX to DFW. That plane was trashed!! I don't think its ever been cleaned! It smelled so bad inside, the windows were so scratched up you couldnt see out, the seats were NASTY and the horrible flight crew didnt help matters any!

An Aloha 737-200. It was from HNL to OGG. N804AL. The windows we're all dirty and scratched up, there was also oily film on the windows. The "leather" seats we're really dirty, and had pen marks, or we're a little torn. This plane was really loud too. I had a flight on them back to HNL, and it wasn't half as bad.

Well, it would have to a TWA DC-9! That thing was a piece of crap! Not to mention the service! The plane looked like it was in a war, dirty, dented, etc. The inside had only a few windows with shades on them, the rest had only the little plastic thing that attaches to them so you can pull them down. The bathrooms were a horrible mess! The plane was horrid, that is why we will never fly TWA any more!

Southwest 737-200 ONT to PHX in April '97. This flight was the last leg of a trip originating from GEG with stops at SEA and OAK. All of the previous legs were flown on a clean, quiet, and relatively spacious 737-300, so stepping into -200 felt like a sardine can. Make that a LOUD sardine can, especially sitting in the rear cabin behind those ear-shattering (JT??) engines. The upholstery in my seat had some unidentified stain. I don't want to know where that came from. There were scrunched up pretzel bags and smashed beverage cups under the seats in front of me. Geez, I was surprised to not find a used barf bag somewhere in that mess. The flight attendants must have been at the tail end of their shift, they were a little on the grouchy side during this flight. Although my flight ended in PHX, my baggage was forwarded to El Paso. Overall, it was a rather unsavory flight.

I'll reiterate. My worst was a Southwest 737-200, eerily similar to the above post. Lots of trash, peanuts on the floor and in the seat crack, ripped magazines, stains and frays everywhere. That one was particularly bad, but as a whole the Southwest planes are dirtier on the inside than most other planes.

Northwest DC-10 from EWR-AMS. N223NW, this plane was bad, the lavs were dirty, didnt flush right, the water didnt drain properly. The seats had torn fabric, the carpet was coming up, and the floor, every time someone walked past me the floor seemed to flex, never felt that before! Just really nasty. I swear the engines sounded like turboprops on climb. Then when I got out at AMS I looked at the outside of the plane, and it too was dirty. Oh well. Ironically, yet understandable, N237NW, the plane with NW/KLM colors was VERY clean. Northwest, Never again, I only did it for the CO mileage!

Egyptair 707-320 from DAM to CAI Nov. 1990. The cabin was still acceptable but the
exterior was too dirty to be described,
though i have to say that it was a flight to remember, first and single time on a
707, the FA's were nice though.

4th of July 1999 JFK-SJU TWA B757. Even though the plane was new, only TWA could have turned it in such a miserable shape. Bathrooms were stinking urine inside and around it. Even though the walls and overhead bins were all new-white, they were scratched with some kind of black ink...I felt sorry for the B757.
I also remember a US Shuttle B727 that I took last year to be dirty. I would rather say old.....it is probably replaced with A320s now

Air Sinai 737-200 from tlv-cai...It was a white tail..no markings, just lots of smudge and grease marks all over and no a/c..temp was 100 degrees at tlv on tarmac and jam packed with 28in. seat pitch.. by far the dirtiest flight and most uncomfortable..the OAG said it was going to be a 737-500..NOT!!!

egyptair crew was on board..the were fairly nice, though..

Air Algerie, on a 737-200 from Geneva to Zurich.
I'm glad it wasn't a long flight.
The whole interior and especially the seats were quite dirty (and the windows too, I almost couln't see through them).
There were only about 4 or 5 pax in Economy, and during the flight I never saw a F/A!
The whole flight itself was quite exciting, especially the taxi to the runway in GVA.... but that's another story.

looks like Southwest is taking a beating here. I wonder if it has something to do with their very competitive ticket prices?! It makes one wonder what else they're not taking care of ?? Scary !
