Airline Review Magazine

Wed Mar 10, 2004 1:12 pm

Does anyone have a subscription to Airline Review Magazine? I subscribed to it in Dec. and have yet to get an issue and their website has been down for a week. Did they go under?

I can't find the magazine in any of the major book stores like I can the others, but I did find it in some rinky dink book store in Lake Havasu, AZ in February, so I don't think they went under. Give me about five minutes and I'll see if I can get some contact info..

Yes I too subscribed from Dec onwards and I havent received anything as yet so I went to CHAPTERS bookstore whom are a very bookstore company in YYZ and they said that the magazine company has been having a lot of problems since their december 03 issue release. So I bet that they went bankrupt or something else happened.

However it was a very very good magazine of which I have 4-5 past issues and always enjoy reading.

Airline Review and Airliner World are the best magazines for airline related news and stories if u ask me!!!

OK here is their info..

Airline Review
3025 Queen Frederica Dr. Suite 906
Mississauga, ON L4Y-3A1, Canada

Email: subs@airline-review.com
or
info@airline-review.com
Website: www.airline-review.com
Phone: 212-812-2181

The phone number sounds like it is an NY area code but it looks like they are based out of Canada. The issue I have is the Dec. 2003 issue but I must have gotten it in Jan and not Feb. Hope this helps. Good luck getting it worked out..

If you paid with a credit card you should be able to appeal the charges, especially if you used AMEX, but Visa and Mastercard should reverse the charges too. If you used a debit card that has the Visa or MC logo on it you may be able to as well. Otherwise if you paid by check I would think it would be up to the individual bank as to how they handle it. You will probably have to fill out a whole bunch of appeal forms..
Again best of luck!!

Upon my last check, their webiste is down. I have a feeling that these clowns are no more. I too wanted to try their publication, so I asked for a free copy per their offer (some 4 times), suffice it to say it the magazines never arrived. I know of photogs and writers that were never paid for their submissions. Something in the back of my head was telling me that these guys were not legit.

They have been up and down for years. I got a couple of issues for free way back when they started... then, when they were pimping their message board, I was the #1 poster in an effort to help them get things started. They promissed free subscriptions to the top posters. Never saw a damn thing. To me, it wasn't worth it to gripe. Lots of flash, no substance.

Any airline magazine that does an airticle about the biggest Australian carrier "Quantas" cannot be taken seriously.

Good riddance, I say.
I, and many other people I know, did not get the issues promised to them. Seems like others here have had similar experience. The photos were nice, but that's what we have airliners.net for.  Smile

I'm rather sure I last received an issue a couple of weeks ago. But maybe it was just the December issue running late. I'll have to check at home.
Well, the problems with their competence have been regularly discussed in these forums... but I was always hoping they'd get their act together.

These guys ran advertising on Airliners.net and owe us approximately $2500 in advertising fees. It was in the old days when payment was done after the ad campaing had finished (and I was a naive little Swede thinking it was given that people would actually pay for what they buy).

Oh well, you live and learn.

I advise not to do business with these people.

The only copies I ever had, I purchased at Barnes and Noble bookstore. It seems like they did all the right things to get off the ground, but didn't follow through on their responsibilities, or did not have enough capital to get started initially. I did like some of the articles, and the layout.

Too bad if they did not make it. However, I do hope that you guys get your money back.

I had the two free trial issues last January and February. I wasn't very impressed by them, too many fancy pictures and not enough content. Airliner World is the best out there.  Smile

I tend to agree with this assesment regarding the initial issues. They tried to skimp on quality by going for cheaper articles, etc... but Phil realized that he needed quality if he was going to compete. Some of the later issues actually featured some excellent pieces, although it appears that a number of the writers have since been stiffed out of the promised money.

I sent them money for a single issue which I did not receive. However, I am still one up because I received 2 freebies. They had a good article on AC. Bad time to start a magazine post-terrorist attacks and internet.

Well with a magazine that was as horrible as Airline Review was, no wonder they went out of business. It was fecund with factual errors, many grammatical/syntax mistakes, as well as a lot of spelling/punctuation errors that got through the editors. After my free issue, I was basically disgusted. Since they had just started out when I received my free issue, I figured I would give them a while to get their act together, and then look at the magazine again to see if they had all of the quirks rolled out. No such luck.

I was thinking about this just yesterday. I've been seeing the December issue at several chains (Barnes & Noble, Joe Muggs, and Borders) for a while now, and thought that perhaps they'd gone bust. I guess either they lost their distributor due to nonpayment (Can't get your magazine into stores if you don't have a distrubutor to get the mags to the major magazine distributors [Anderson Services, The News Group, Hudson News, et. al] and without access to those distributors, no way you can get your magazine into the stores) or just couldn't get the funds to do any additional issues.

I?m still waiting to be paid for my last two published articles.

But in fairness, I don't think Phillip (Editor) intended this to be a scam.

I find that this magazine is somewhat overpriced, especially since I already find the airline news it reports on various websites, at least a month in advance. However, its insight on some airline ops (ie stories etc) are quite interesting. Is it not available at Borders?

I recieved the February 2003 FREE Issue, and needless to say, I was DISGUSTED. I wished I could have sent a picture like this to the editor. But I decided it wasn't worth it since I didn't actually pay for the issue.

Who knows, maybe sending out all those free issues before they got alot of money was the wrong thing to do.

Avion Revue is pretty good, but I don't like it so much because it doesn't focuse only in comercial aviation. I am suscribed to Airways and they're exactly what I want. I also like ATW....

I requested the trial issue 5 times, and never got it.
