Most Important Factor When Choosing An Airline

Thu Mar 11, 2004 3:35 am

What is the most important factor that makes you decide to fly with an airline when there is competition?

This might include price, on-board service, good on-time record, personal TV, legroom, etc

Assuming flight times, fares and destinations are similar, easily the most important deciding factor for me is the seat pitch in economy. After that, its whether the airline offers IFE. It is also nice to have smiling F/A's, but that's not essential for me.

If all things are equal, I try to book on an aircraft type I have not flown on yet. Other considerations are FF miles. If I'm close to an award level I may book on that carrier to get it.....

I think it´s the price for first, on-board service second and PTV´s(entertainment) third!

The most important thing for me is price. When prices are equivalent, I chose by aircraft, most of the time, the aircraft I have not flown yet, then the most comfortable one.
Mileage programmes also influence me most of the times. I don't mind with connections. For me, the more connection number, the better the flight is!

For me, due to quite heavy traveling the most important factors are in order of importance:

* Schedules, especially return schedule (evening departure after normal office hours)
* Seat comfort (not necessary seat pitch alone, also noise of the aircraft)
* Onboard service quality in terms of food and the attitude of the FAs.
* If I have FF Status on the alliance (lounge access).

IFE does not have any significance for me.

Unfortunately my company's travel policy (cheap fares) plays also role in choosing the airline.

Greetings,

Should :

- Fly where you want to.

- Have a good safety record, although now it's almost OK everywhere,
except....

- Not used to be on strike.

- Being part of an Alliance where you are FT.

- Having in its flee 747-400 if possible on long-haul.

- Not bogged in big financial problems.

You can now add more comments.

Cheers. Kilavoud.

Price is definitely important buy if NW is competitve (ie within 30 bucks or so) I'll stay with them because I'm a worldperks elite member, so that means I could potentially get upgraded.... to Asia though I try to stick with NW- though I'll be hitting CI business class in April...

1. Because I am a member of United's Mileage Plus program, I try to fly Star Alliance if possible.
2. Price.
3. Schedule
4. Aircraft type, legroom, IFE (in no particular order)

For overnight flights I use Qantas simply because they are the only airline I know that lets me plug my autopap into a wall outlet - I have sleep apnea and can only sleep with the machine. Rather sad as I prefer the business class seats on BA.

I also use RTW tickets on oneworld when traveling on business and try to use as many sectors as possible with the various members. My overall preference is American because that is where I get the FF miles and free upgrades on LHR to ORD flights.

The only thing I avoid at all costs is a plane smaller than the F 100 or 737.

Short legs: price
long haul flights: price & space.

the main thing i look for is to make sure its colors are either grey and red or red and white?! and it has a northwest logo on the tail. Also check to make sure its a dc-9, a319,a320 and not a 737.

1. Most important : on time performance and reliability.
2. Good cost benefit : paying a very cheap fare and then waiting hours to check-in, some hours more because the plane is late and then flying in a dirty plane to a destination that is 100 miles from the place you want to go might turn-out to be more expensive.
3. New and comfortable planes . A 28in seat pitch in a 4 hour flight could ne death.
4. Mileage
