Info You Like To See On An Airlines Website?

Thu Mar 11, 2004 9:38 am

I think some websites of airlines are really annoying because they don't provide the information I want.

I'm often in search for:
- very detailed fleet info
- route map
- When I book a flight, the type of a/c
- Duration of the flight a booked

Any thoughts?
I love both Airbus and Boeing as much as I love aviation!

On Continental's website, I would like to see the a/c type under the flight info section.

I would like to know what service they offer in each class and be able to view what seats are booked and what are not.

I would be really interested in seeing the menu of the meals being served onboard... this will be an advantage, because

1. it will give you an idea of what meal is being served onboard
2. you will be able to check whether you have any allergies towards the food being served onboard, and follow it up by ordering a special meal
3. take your own food onboard, specially if the food does not seem particularly appealing
4. check whether the meal being served onboard confirms to religious requirements (e.g, if the meals being served are pork, beef etc.), which would be particularly applicable to passengers who either dont order special meals, or hate special meals (like me)!

Also being able to check the details of a reservation directly from an airline website, rather than going to galileo or amadeus, and thus saving time (although a few seconds). I know some airlines already do that, but the majority of the ones I have visited don't.

I want to see a route map section on these websites:
BA
KL
AF
LH
SQ

These websites have destination maps but the routes are not shown. They should follow CO's design instead:
DL
NW
UA
US
AA
AZ

I would like specific information on what services they offer in different classes. Also I like to see pictures of the seats in the different classes. Plus, I like the route map to be easy to read. For instance I have a hard time reading the route map on Continentals website.

It may be hard to read CO's route map, but it is the only one that has the actual routes flown. All the other major's route maps simply list the cities that they fly to.

Wish List for ideal website features

BA's booking system - Let's you see cheapest fare available not only on day you want to fly but up to a fortnight either side to find cheapest fare. Great for finding ideal cost/flight time options cheaply, with benefit of doing each leg separately to get combined total that cheapest/most convenient.

CO's seat reservation system - See what seats are available to pre-reserve when you book, with option to change as required.

QF's seat maps - full aircraft with galley and door locations (Not just one long line of seats)

BA's timetable - Shows for day you request, plus three days either side (a week!), showing direct and connecting flights, and scheduled aircraft.

BA/CO online check-in - Not tried any other airlines for this but these two both easy to use. Personal preference for BA, but only because no seats are reserved exclusively for frequent flier memebers.

Can go on but those four combined would make a pretty good reservation system online.
Let's Go British Caledonian!

On my longhaul flights I always uses the companys webpage to see information about inflight entertainment and the to see info about the aircraft im flying with.
But I never uses it for shorter flights, unless I want to sw what aircraft they are using. But that usually is printed on the itinary I get from the airlines and find the aircraft here on A.net

Good ones! We should send a copy of this thread to the airlines.

As for he route map it should be like the one on http://www.qantas.com.au/content/dyn/routemaps/int/index or http://www.airberlin.com/site/index.php?LANG=eng or http://www.gexx.de/gexx/makepage.php?seite=1&rsl_lang=en&PAGENT=&PDUA=&PMOP=&PHPSESSID=68f5cdd27cf76f6c29f625f4aed7c4c8. There are plenty of excellent route maps. Thing is I'd like to see everything mentioned above combined in one airline homepage. BTW AA's route map is very helpful for planning a oneworld round the world route.

As for the seat map as FURUREFA stated, http://www.flyzoom.com has a good one. The only sitenote is that you have to go through the booking proces first.

And eh... How about photo's of the f/a's on your flight and detailed information about them, whether they are single or not, etc. Big grin
