SAS Braathens New Name!

Fri Mar 12, 2004 1:20 am

Now its official.
The new name of the norwegian company will be SAS Braathens and will be the biggest of the 3 airlines with 2000 cabincrews against SAS Swedens 1600 and SAS Denmarks 1400 cabincrews.
And they wil primary be in charge for domestic nowegian flights and will probably be the biggest Interscandinavian carrier among those 3 SAS companys. But they will not have as many routes to the rest of Europe as their colleagues in Denmark and Sweden.

I wish them luck and loads of succes!!

If the norwegian fragment of SAS is called SAS Braathens, does it mean that Braathens will be merged with the present norwegian network of SAS?

Braathens has been a part of SAS for a while and they will be merged with the present network in the new SAS. I know SAS bought some shares in Braathens. But I dont know if they are owners of the whole Braathens group.

The new name of the norwegian company will be SAS Braathens.

Actually, this name is just proposed as the company's new name. If it is approved, it will so happen under an extraordinary AGM March 23rd. SAS also owns the entire Braathens, same with Wideroe, although they'll keep their name as it is.

I'm assuming the planes will just have Braathens, Sweden, and Denmark painted on? Instead of a whole new color scheme?

As we have known for some time now, Braathens and SAS will be SAS Braathens. Good luck!

The legal name may become SAS Braathens - that does NOT mean that the planes will have that name painted onto them. Just as SAS Denmark, SAS Sweden, and SAS Intercont though they will be separate legally - not necessarily will have any visible changes done to the outside (or inside) of the planes. That would be an extreme waste of money.
The present BU planes will most likely over time change into the (ugly) SAS livery!

The probable result of the SAS and Braathens merger in Norway is a cut in administrative staff at the head office to avoid double functions to save money. Another result will probably be rationalization in the route structure to some extent.

I found it tragic that SAS doesn't remove the Braathens-name now. The only reason I can think of to keep it is to avoid reactions from the employees in Braathens. Would be strange if both names are on the planes....and uniforms...and paper sheets etc. By doing so it makes it even more difficult to eg use a plane in Sweden/Denmark...if painted SAS Braathens. Braathens do not operate to Denmark and most Danes have never heard of "Braathens", beside only Norwegians and some Danes/Swedes know how to pronounce this odd written Norwegian name...which originates from a Norwegian last name.

Yeah I really don't think there is a need to repaint the aircraft with these new names. The name change has mostly got to do with the company internal affairs and not much to do with the customers. Although they'll operate as separate entities, I doubt we would notice much difference in this new arrangement in the near future as their routes will still be streamlessly coordinated. It's not like they are competing with each other so much.

I'm just wondering if the code SK will still apply to all of these 4 companies. For the same reasons that I mentioned above, I don't think they need to. Or maybe they'll change to LAN Group's system with LA, LP + (sorry i dont know the codes for LAN Ecuador & LAN Dominicana).

From what I've heard there are some rumors that SAS Braathens (the Norwegian part of the SAS company) will be using Braathens AOC...I don't know AOC what that means...but perhaps someone knowes.
