Are Hand Guns And Air Marshals Justified?

Fri Mar 12, 2004 8:13 am

Once again, another "black 11" (9/11 N.Y., 3/11 MAD). Maybe someone can say that the second one is not related with aviation... Well... Could be. Terrible episodes in human history.

Some airline (LY to be exact) has armed marshals in their flights. An excellent record of no incidents due to tight security (in the ground and in the air).

I heard (not official information) that some recent cancelled flights from BA and AF from London and Paris to US cities, were because the denial of UK and France to use marshals in their flights, and some pressure from the US on this point? Of course all are rumors... But, are they today justify?

Do we imitate El Al security policy?

While it would be nice if they were not needed, and it would be nice if Security on the ground was tighter, but as that is virtually impossible to achieve, I think multiple layers of security is a good thing. I have zero problem with air marshalls, and feel better knowing they are on my planes

Pure hypothesis and paranoia!

Were not the main BA and AF cancellations on day 1 of the month?

Wasn't the Dawson's Field highjacking and blowing up of three aircraft on a day 11?

Personlly, I will never be happy with any weapon being carried on an aircraft.

I never thought I'd live to see the day when authorities would need to be placed on aircraft - let alone authorities with guns. However, due to the ruthlessness and barbaric acts of specific terrorist organizations, I have no problem knowing that highly trained professional security agents have the capacity to dispatch and neutralize such scumbags. I can live with the new reality.
