Tikal Jets To MEX

Fri Mar 12, 2004 3:35 pm

According to their homepage they will soon start to fly GUA-MEX. This is what I call rapid growth. I wish that they would add a news or what's new page, it would be more helpful to know what's going on with them.

They have been after Mexico City since ages. Recently Tikal Jets changed ownership and management and one thing that kept constant was its plans to expand service to Mexico and Monterrey.

They are currently operating GUA-CUN-GUA twice a week.

Yeah, I guess the route GUA-Monterrey is for the Guatemalans that attend to the Tech.

It will be interesting to see if this airline will steal MX customers in the MEx-GUA route and if MX or 6A will respond (or make a preemptive move) by offering MTY-GUA too.

Interesting! Would there be enough demand for MTY-GUA?

I don't k now about the demand, I really don't know a lot of people that study at the Tech de Monterrey, but it would be interesting. I don't think that 6A would be interested at all in the Guatemalan market, its so small and closed that it almost looks like a club of airlines. Sometimes I'm impressed that none of the current airlines that fly to GUA have left.

We need more variety at MEx and more options to fly!

Aer... Do you know what's their current status on the Dc9 fleet? Does Tikal still has their Dc9-32? They are also currently flying 2 Dc9-51s right?

I think the key to their success in the flights to Mexico City will be service on par with MX (tough thing to accomplish) and good fares. MX currently flies the route twice daily if I am not mistaken using A319's.

Good to see Tikal Jets expanding. I think they haven't made any publicity here in Guatemala, as they made the publicity when they began service to Cancun and Havana.
There is a rumor that they will begin service de Florida don't know if they will serve MIA or FLL. Does anyone have any information about this route?

Will they add more planes? The MD-80 would be a good and cheap choice....

They were talking about GUA-FLL for a while. It even used to be mentioned on thier route map under "future service". I have not heard anything for a while, though.

In my opinion, the more airlines and planes in MEX, the better. I insist as I have written in other posts, if certain conditions are met, Mexico should have a total open skies policy

I think that the GUA- any city in the US will be in the long term, the very long term, since GUA is a cat. 2 airport and accordingly no national airline can fly to the US. I'm not sure about this though.

Oh and an open skies with Mexico would be great, especially for Guatemala.

Well according to this FAA page (http://www.faa.gov/avr/iasa/iasadef5.htm) it will definitely be hard for them to fly to the US, unless they wet lease a plane.

Aer,

Saw it yesterday around 6:17 that is 13 mins before schedule! It was really nice! Also it was my first time seeing in life a Dc9-51.

As soon as the weather helps I'll go snap during its arrival a few slides and upload them here!

and what about those rumors of staring flights to MTY.

Now that I am becoming once again a full regio, I need to look after new services to MTY.

Where is MX to YVR?
Where is LH to FRA?
Where is AM to DTW?
Where is AC to YYZ?
Where is WU to GUA?

May be TA to SAL??????

yeah I'm too wondering what happened to their BAC 111s?

quick questions for you guys in Mexico:

When is Aerolineas Internacionales going to start up again?

What equipment is Cubana operating to Mexico City, is it daily?

What was the new airline that was serving Cabo San Lucas with a 737-200, are they still flying / do they fly to Mexico City?

thanks!

MIAMIx707,

Last I heard, they where gonna keep one B111 and cannibalize the other for parts, 3 days ago I took off from GUA to STL and saw one of them with out the tail, so it is true; sad but true.

Pzurita1,

On the route GUA-MTY, if they in fact do it, I think they will take their time since they just started flight now to MEX, and they only have 2 of the 3 DC 9 that they are supposed to have; the third one is in Mexico city according on a tread by Ghost77 at /discussions/general_aviation/read.main/1468875/6/.

"N1003P a Dc9-32 its due for Tikal Jets. (As soon as they get this -32 Tikal will stop sending their -51s to MEX.) More over and good news for the spotters Tikal changed their scheduled! They'll get to MEX at 06:30 p.m and the return leg will be at 09:30 p.m just to be on time for all European connections!"

Miamix707:
Cubana is nowadays (at least up to JAN) operating an Airbus A320-200 EX-TACA, with TACA's colours and title's, its the "Mensajero de Esperanza", and yes, it has 1 or 2 daily operations, I dunno about the Il62 they sent before the A320 and DC-10 to MEX.

Miamix707:
I heard a few days ago that definitely Aerolineas Internacionales was not going to start up again. All their airplanes are currently in very very sad conditions stored in Cuernavaca airport.

Cubana is currently operating the A-320 in the HAV-MEX route.

The airline flying SJD-MEX was probably Global Air, which by the way, got suspended a few days ago for not complying with civil aviation authorities' regulations and inspections (so I heard).

Pzurita1:
You'll be Regio again? Gee.... I hope you don't mind that I use your chair at the Mexico City's Avioncitos Meeting because it turns out that now I will be chilango instead of Cancunense (or is it Canculeño?) Big grin

I hope the speculation around Tikal Jets' possible future flights to MTY will open MX or 6A's eyes so one of them decides to pursue that route too. It must be a bit annoying for regios to fly to IAH or MEx every time they want to go to Central America!!!

Pedro, I think we need to have one more Avioncitos meeting in MEx. I have never been to one... not even to Aeromar's Terminal 2!!!

RE the Bac1-11, I asked the same question in this

http://www.airliners.net/discussions/general_aviation/read.main/1382698

thread; got the answer that all are retired by now.

Funnily, the OAG still lists B11 flights through the end of May. I´ll check that matter out in person when I´m in the area in July anyway.

I really like Tikal's livery, it's great to see a second airline for Guatemala!
Actually, I remember Aviateca, now "eaten by" TACA, was really good, hopefully Tikal will be the "new Aviateca"!

Concerning Tikal Jets to MTY, I think the idea is excellent. I have no doubt that such a route can be profitable, but don't you think doing that route via MID would be even a better idea? I remember Aviateca flying the route GUA-MID-IAH in the nineties with B 737-300s like 4x times a week or so, and it was very profitable (i used to live in MID during those years). Just then GU got financial problems and they had to stop it. On the other hand, 6A (Aviacsa) tried to fly CUN-MID-MTY with their Fokker 100 in the early nineties as well, but this didnt work out as 6A was also facing a very bad financial situation, they even had to get rid of their F100 very quickly. So, if Tikal Jets flies GUA-MID-MTY, and if they could be able to get traffic freedom between MID and MTY, then I would almost assure a succesful business. Then they would link GUA with both important MID and MTY, and at the same time the most important financial and industrial center in southeast Mexico (MID) and the most important financial and industrual center in northeast Mexico (MTY). Nevertheless, I have no idea about permissions for foreign companies carrying passengers within two points in Mexico. What do you think about this?

Somebody correct me if I am wrong but, as of today, no foreign airline has cabotage rights in Mexico. And frankly I do not see any airline obtaining those rights; I don't know if this is a matter of public policy (the prohibition contained in a specific statute) or if it is a discretionary ability of the government but, whatever the case, forget it.

Actually, the proper term is "Canculero". Some people don´t like it, though (can´t quite figure out why). Big grin
