Pan Am To Start SFB-FLL-BQN And FLL-SKB-SJU

Fri Mar 12, 2004 5:16 pm

Pan Am will launch scheduled and charter non-stop service between Ft. Lauderdale and four cities this May. The four cities are Aguadilla, Puerto Rico; Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; and St. Kitts, St. Kitts & Nevis. Flights to Aguadilla and St. Kitts are now open for booking.

Article (Miami Herald):
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/business/8164556.htm

Pan Am will provide the only scheduled non-stop service between Ft. Lauderdale and all four destinations. They will also be the only airline flying non-stop between the Miami area and Aguadilla and St. Kitts.

Pan Am currently provides regular charter service between Ft. Lauderdale and Port of Spain. That service will become scheduled.

Finally Pan Am adding routes that make sense. Punta Cana, Aguadilla, and St. Kitts should do well, but I expect Port of Spain to be the best bet (very good route for AA and BWIA ). May 27th seems to be a good day for BQN- it gains JetBlue serice and Pan Am adds service to FLL (which is badly needed). I noticed the flight originates in SFB, will Pan Am continue to operate it's nonstop SFB-BQN flight or will it be replaced by this new service. ST. Kitts- San Juan dosen't make much sense but hey they are known for adding some weird routes.

Non-stop SFB-BQN service will still operate, but will be reduced to twice a week (SuTh).

That is Pan Am. I think so. That would be fine for expanded into south Florida and keeping growth need fly out of FLL.

Despite that the new Pan Am is just a name and not very much like the original airline at all, one can only hope that this expansion into the caribbean foreshadows an expansion into Latin America.

What would be very interesting to see happen, is Pan Am grow enough to become a presence in latin america again. Were they successful enough we could see an airline that resembles, somewhat, the Pan Am that died in 1991. Then replace the CEO and get someone in there to vitalize the airline in the theme of old pan am....try and make it as true to the original as possible, beyond the name and logo. That would be really neat.

How fantastic if, in 20 years, Pan Am would be a major force in the airline industry. And not just a name, but a rebirth of the original airline. Right now, Pan Am is nothing more than a little carrier that took on the name of a legacy carrier. Let's hope it gets beyond that.

Do you ever think Pan AM will replace of older B727 to the new generation of B737 anytime soon?

Great news for Aguadilla, though PN seems to have cut the BMA-operated BQN-PUJ route. It's no longer on the schedule. Santiago, D.R. has disappeared from the reservation drop down menu as well. I guess it wouldn't be Pan Am 3 without *some* randomness.

ScottysAir: I don't believe those 727s are leaving anytime soon. They acquired a bunch of United 727s a couple years ago that are only now going to be put in service. So, yeah, the 727s are staying for the long run.

Vulindlela744: PN's website is http://www.flypanam.com, but it's a little spartan I'm afraid. The reservation system is also a bit awkward.

Hey,

Does this mean you can book flights from FLL to POS on their website? This would be great. I only wish that they would get rid of those old 727's for some 737 NG's.

Anyone else think this is an embarassment to the grand old Pan Am name? While the idea of a "retro" carrier rebuilding the glory that was once Pan Am is neat, I think the name should be allowed to rest in peace.

Oh good heavens no!! Keep the 727s flying! Pan Am is the only regularly scheduled airline to continue flying the 727 within the United States. Some of us happen to adore the 727 and Pan Am is the only way to fly on one these days short of chartering one.

Pan Am is giving these planes a new lease on life. I sure hope that they continue that. The 737NG doesn't hold a candle to the 727, even though the 727 is, technically, far less efficient.

Yeah, This is getting old with the B727 and it should need to orders on the new B737NG aircraft into their fleet.
