Least Favourite 737 Variant?

Sat Mar 13, 2004 8:28 am

Well...I imagine this topic has been done for the nth time, but, people's minds change so I thought I'd bring it up again. Big grin

Which 737 variant is your least favourite? The one that you just don't like or go out of your way to avoid flying?

For me it is the 737-800. Which is odd because, until I flew on one, I loved them. Very nice looking 737s. My mind changed after having flown on them, though.

For some reason, the 738 is the only airliner on which I consistantly get airsick. I never, ever get airsick on any other aircraft. Just the 738. Never figured out why. Maybe it's something to do with how well the plane handles light turbulence.

For this reason I go out of my way to avoid having to fly on 737-800s. I'll find different routes or even pay slightly more for a different route or airline just to avoid flying on 737-800s. So that would be my least favourite of the 737 series.

By comparison, I have never had a problem on a 73G or 733...never at all.

So, which 737 variant do you like least?

I'll have to say the 737-200 Basic. I flew from DEN to SLC on one of Frontier's 5 732 basic. It was noisy than hell from what I'm used to, plus the fact when I first saw the ship, the skin behind the main cabin door was all wrinkled. Later I found out it was like the 55th 737 off the line, and used to belong to Piedmont. Nothing against Piedmont, but it was both nerve-wacking & thrilling at the same time. I can't say it's my least favorite 737 series, but that ship was by far the oldest 737 I flew on.  Wink/being sarcastic Regards.

Definitely the 737-900, those wingtips are oversized and make it look downright clumsy.

Hmmmm... I love all 737s but I guess my least favorite is the -500. I love small airplanes but beeing the smallest of the 2nd generation 37s, the -500 is kinda like a small airplane pretending to be a big one.

Let's see, I flew on the following 737 models:

- 737-200
- 737-300
- 737-400
- 737-500
- 737-600
- 737-700
- 737-800 (with and without winglets)

My least favorite of them is the 737-300 and -500, simply because I flew too often on these aircraft types  Big thumbs up.

I most love the 732, as it's old, noisy and much more exciting than the newer versions. If I had to choose one, I'd say the 733, as I fly it the most.

I haven't flown of the 731, 736, or 739. But of the rest, my order of preference is as follows:

1) 732
2) 738
3) 737
4) 735
5) 733
=) 734

I know I've flown more times on the 737 family than any other type of aircraft. It's just one of those planes!

In my opinion, the -300 has no redeming qualities. I like the -500 because it's short and rarer. The -200 is nostalgic fun. All of the NG's are great- smooth, quiet, and comfortable. I haven't flown on the -400, -100, or -600, and am not likely to. I might get on the -400 some day with AS, but not the others.

The -300 is simply the epitome of a boring airliner.

I would have to say the 900 it looks wrong to me. A stretch too far.

I am kinda fond of those old noisy 200s

At AS, our first 5 -900 deliveries...16 F/C...156 Y/C...1 lav forward...3 lavs aft. This is an incredibly stupid configuration for an a/c this size. All of our latest deliveries have a lav at row 6, like the 757. This makes MUCH more sense and is much more convenient for the customer, and makes doing our service much more efficient.

I'd have to say the -800 and -900. I have never been on either variant, but I'm just not wild about how they look. They don't seem like 737s to me.

I'm going to have to place my vote for the -300 also.. It's just way too "blah"..

The -200 has so much character that it shouldn't be anyone's least favorite. The -400 is ok, just not as ordinary or plentiful as the -300. The -500 & -600 are great because they are so stubby and relatively rare (like the -200). The -700 is almost in the same class as the -300, but the longer wingspan, optional winglets, rounder engine intakes and new approach light positions are it's saving grace. The -800 is ok like the -400. They are way too common now in the US, but it's hard to beat a 738(WL). The -900, definitely in a class of it's own, but, all in all, not too impressive.

I love all 737s, yet I recently experience a HP flight from PHX-BOI on one and I was really unimpressed. Noisy, (there was some sort of loud rattling) and cramped.

I love the noise of the old 732 and it was a great plesure for me the flight onboard one of the last Ryanair's oldies.
On the other hand I find the 733 unatractive as a design. So I will chose the 733 as the worst 737.

There is nothing wrong with any of the 737 models in my opinion. The Pratts and G.E.'s are great engines for the 737, and the 737 will always look good to me. In fact, the majority of Boeing's aircraft I have found to be appealing no matter how short, long, or what engines they have. Boeing has a tradition of developing aircraft that will look good no matter how they are changed. If the aircraft looks good from the start, and it is a Boeing aircraft, I have found in my opinion that it will always look good no matter how much its lengthened. I love Boeing aircraft! Don't get me wrong, I love the Airbus aircraft too. Boeing, and once Douglas, and Airbus produce beautiful aircraft.

I admire the 739 because of its rarity, but I dislike it because I think Boeing dropped the ball on its design. I've always thought that Boeing should have gone ahead with the -900X a while ago...

Has to be the early 200. Not a good plane at all! I am shocked at how some of you don't like the 800 and 900. The 739 is one awesome bird!

I happen to think that the 732 is the best of the 737 series. Alot of personality and of course the cutest of all the 737s. IF you can't fly the 727 anymore the 732 is the next best thing. Big grin

In defense of the -300....it's a heck of alot more interesting, to me, than the -400, which I find the most boring of the Classic 737 series.

Just thought I'd throw that in.  Big grin

My vote goes to the -500 series. Of all the 737's I have loaded (200,300,400,500,700,800 and 900) it has the worst cargo bin design. It's too small which makes it a real fight to fit everything in when the flight is booked full. I love the 200 series for those screaming engines and soot covered rear fuselage (and plenty of bin space).

I would have to dislike the -400 series, mostly because that's all I ever seem to fly. I get kinda sick of it.

On the other hand, my favorite would be the -200 series, especially the combis. Their engines are so loud and feel so powerful on such a cute little plane.

least favorite: 737-900; 757s are more unique and just as useful; Boeing is trying to replace every plane in the skies with a 737; "737-1000-- two sets of wings, 320 feet long, 3-3 seating for up to 500, piloted by same technologies used by a Texas Instruments TI-32"

whats my least favorite 737 model

hmmmmmmmmmm........
a joint loser is appropiate here

733
734
735
736
73g
738
739

what a hideous plane, the nose is so ugly and unfasionable in todays skies

the 732 kind of got away with because it has those little thin engines and 727 got away with it becase you appreciate the whole plane design and not just the nose but all of the modern 737's with there silly little uncircular engines are just plane ugly

as ugly as they and i dont have a problem with seeing them when i go to the airport but i was a bit pissed off when boeing decided to make another advanced version (6,7,8,900's) and have now cancelled the 757

the overall winner, i reckon would have to be the 900 as it has a big role to play in the cancellation of the 757 line

The 731 & 732 have ugly narrow long engines that I've never liked.

I mostly like 737NGs although I have some doubts regarding the 736. Knowing It's too heavy compared to capacity and the small amounts of cargo it can hold makes me less happy flying them than flying the 738. I mostly fly SAS.

There is such thing as a B736. There is only a few of them built, that's why it's so underrated.

SAS was the launch customer for the 736. According to Boeing's website SAS has ordered 28 out of 71 736 ordered in total. SAS say they operate 30 of them (ILFC?). SAS received 27 out of the 32 736s delivered last decade.

The 737-400.

I always thought this was the most awkward of the 737 series. The engines look too small for it and the plane itself is in sort of a no-mans land for seating. It wasn't quite big enough to compete with the A320 in the 150 seat category, so couldn't replace the 727 fleets.

I guess it was more of a competitor for the MD80, when it looked like McD were gonna be around a lot longer.

But in photos, it just doesn't look right. Tail too short engines too small. The 737-200 brings back fond memories though. Hehe, little cuties  Smile

In terms of appearance, the 737-600 is the one I dislike. The proportions are wrong with the tail looking far too tall for the length of the aircraft. The 737-500 with the shorter tail looks much better.

My personal favourite 737 is the -200 - it's the last "real" aircraft that I see flying in and out of Manchester in reasonable numbers. You can't beat the noise of it on takeoff, at least you can't now the BAC 1-11s have gone... Ah memories.

I usually try to avoid flying on a 737 (except the -200 series) because I have done that so often that it gets boring.

The version that I do dislike though ist the 737-400. I don't know why. I just don't like the looks of it.

I've never been a fan of the -200. The ones I've flown on were loud, clunky, somewhat dilapidated, and generally showed their age. I'll take an NG any day, especially one with blended winglets. I can't wait to see the 737-900X.
