Does anybody remember that, as it was happening (the second plane crashing), a CNN correspondent said she thought a single engined propellor plane had crashed into the WTC!? I have never seen this sound bite repeated on CNN again.

As someone who was born in New York City and raised in it for 12 years, when I saw that United Airlines 767-200 hit Tower Two, my heart and mind stopped. I couldn't believe what was happening and for the rest of the day I couldn't concentrate on school work or anything. I had the feeling of insecurity the whole day. Whenever I see something related to 9-11-01 where it shows the two towers, i cry.

Could we please not bring this thread up anymore. It is too depressing to read it. It really brings back the sad memories of that day. Everytime I see something relating to 9/11, I have mind flashes of scenes I saw on TV.  Sad

I remember starting this thread:

And then my posting when we saw it hit the 2nd building  Sad

It was wierd... I was just casually talking to the United Regional Manager about her trip to Aruba (diving, actually) and her pager went off, had me on hold for 3 minutes, and asked if i could pull up FLIFO (flight info) for 175...  Sad  Sad

Unfortunately, she got laid off and we never got to finish our discussion about her trip nor the events on that day.

I wasn't on the airliners discussion list until October, 2003, so I read through that thread archive for the first time last night, and I have to agree it brings me right back to that instant, like it was yesterday. Very depressing. And it made me furious that a few religious-fanatic assholes could declare war on civilization so abruptly. But what was even more creepy was the link to the airliners discussion thread from late 2000. Even suggesting a B767, wow. Was Nostradamus posting here then or what?

I understand and respect what you are saying. But IMO, if we adopted this philosophy, we are forgetting the memory of what happened that day, and desecrating the memory of the victims.

I personally make a point of periodically watching footage from that day. Not from a morbid stand point, but from the point of I don't want to ever forget what those bastards did to us that day. First I get sad, then I get pissed. How dare they do this to us for no reason whatsoever.

Anyway, that's my two cents on the matter.

Kind regards

I would certainly like to find this thread too...9-11 was one of the things that provided a huge spark to my interest in aviation. It was one of the things that led me to join as a member....about a year later.

That quiet day when the world stopped. UA is in my family, father a pilot, uncle a mechanic, and aunt f/a. I remember waking up to it and jumping to the phone to call my dad. He was still at SFO getting ready for a flight and just being told that he wouldn't be flying that day. My aunt was in Boston that day and was supposed to fly to SFO. My heart was more than cracked in half, I was sick. My uncle met up with my father and they sat on the phone for about an hour or two trying to get the crew list of UA175. He would call on his cell and update to us that the company would not release any names. Then about 3 seconds after hanging up from my dad she called. She was sitting in the terminal. Her flight had been turned around after 15min. She knew the entire crew of UA175. She lost 3 dear dear friends in the events and sense that day has quit being a f/a due to the shock. She sat in the company red carpet lounge until a friend of my dad's (also a UA pilot) came to pick her up. Together they went to a hotel (the UA pilot had gotten in earlier that morning) and for the next 3 days went through the same shock that the rest of the world went through. May no one forget that day and may it stay in our hearts forever. Please add the victims of the recent bombings in Spain to the long long list of normal people that have died to terrism. ;(

It was a terrible day.
I was at work when it happened, and my sister called me and asked If I had heard the news. And I asked what news.. And se told me that a small plane had flewn into WTC. And at that moment everybody thought it was an accident. and while talking to her the other palne flew in the other tower. And then realized this wasn't an accident. It was horrible! And I really felt like everything just collapsed in me. My tears was starting to run down my chins.
I will never forget that day.  Sad
And that day I was also ready to kill a danish newsreporter that covered this terrible incident. She forgot to turn of her mic and told here cameraman these words: Oh yeah! This is going to be great! As a dane I felt ashamed of those words.

The most terrible thing today is that she is still a newsreporter for the same network.

Its quite spooky that Spain's March 11th happened exactly 911 days after September 11th 2001. Someone is doing some serious planning.

That is really bad, I still remember that night(day over there). This latest attack on Madrid also brings back memories. September 11 = 9-1-1
Madrid attacks = 9-1-1 days after September 11

Yes it is 912 because we had 29 days in february. But It is very close, and I dont think there is any connections between those 2 things. If the spanish election would have been settlede on another date, the bomb would probably have blown before the election there.

I live in NY and remember the events of that day, especially when AA587 went down 2 months later. Everybody held their breath until it was confirmed not to be terror related. I was close to Belle Harbor that morning and saw the smoke, when I turned on the radio and heard a plane went down it was quite scary. 9-11 put everyone in the NY metro area on edge for a long time. I get this strong feeling we are close to finding Osama. I feel once he is dead that we can take a big step toward peace. I know a lot of skeptics think there will just be someone else to lead the terrorists but I don't. I believe in the Bible. I feel he in one of the anti-Christ. Once he is dead I think we can begin to defeat the evil and terrorists. 9-11 was the worst day in the worlds history. Everyone in my circle remember the victims and have a couple that were close to us. I support Bush and think he can win this war on terrorism. Our thoughts go out to Spain and their grieving. I refuse to give in to the terrorists. I live my life, travel frequently and will never live in fear nor change any of my habits.

That thread from 2000 is scary ... and darned near prophetic as well.

Interesting though, that just like the designers and emergency planners, nobody back then thought about what actually DID bring the buildings down : the fuel and the resultant fire.

Scary stuff.

I just read the 9/11 thread. It was fascinating to see how the news unfolded in real-time. A couple things really struck me,

  • some early reports were way inaccurate, such as the first plane being a Cessna.

  • a lot of early major news sources, and even some spotters here, misidentified the second plane as a B737 or A320.

  • I also noticed how the thread evolved throughout the day as facts became known.

  • BR715-A1-30, I understand your reluctance to bring up this terrible topic. However, it is a major historical event. I found myself thinking about all the good people we lost that most tragic day.  Crying May God comfort their families and bless those who try to make sure this never happens again.

We were all so crazy. 737 Cessna, Piper 727! Really shows how panic we all were and how we never thought this could happen. Also shows how the FAA was not ready. They did not even know what planes were missing or not. One of the worst days in Modern History.

9-11-01. Whitehorse, Yukon. From what i have learned it was the most chaotic day in Whitehorse's history. If anyone is up to it, read my story. I would like to put aside americas problems for a moment, and tell the story of how the day went up here in the Yukon. Its long, but a good read.

I remember, waking up when my dad came into the room at hollared at me "flick on the news, some yahoo just rammed a plane into the world trade centre". I went to the tele and turned on the news. I watched, and shortly afterwards the second plane hit the tower. I couldnt believe it. But, like the rest of us round here i stood my ground and went to school on time like any other day, with absolutly no clue about how just a few short hours later all hell would break loose for our small city of 23,000 folks.

During the time we were piling into the school, we had no clue what was happening over the pacific. While all the drama was unfolding in New York on that terrible day, a Korean Airlines Boeing 747-400 and a Korean Air Cargo Boeing 747-200F requested to land in ANC for a fuel stop on their way to JFK. They of course had been flying all night and had no clue that the world was forever changing that day. ATC told them that all U.S. airspace had been closed, and they were to divert to Canada, but didnt tell them why. They were starting to head twards low fuel, so the captain decided the needed to land in ANC. The only way they could think of to do that was to call n emergency. And amazingly, shockingly, just by coinkidink, he chose hijacking. Random choice, made with no idea about what was happening. Closest open airport that was berily suitable for an aircraft of their size, was Whitehorse International Airport, in Whitehorse, Yukon.

Shortly after, the city got word of this, and decided it would be best to evacuate the schools and the entire downtown area. Part way through our grade 7 socials class, (I was 12, a few months away from 13 at the time) the vice principal came into the classroom, and asked for our attention. He told us there was a "situation" and they were told to emediatly evacuate all the schools. "Get on any bus, they will be here shortly and are all going to the same place. Any bus, all going to same place." Without knowing what was happening we boarded the busses and headed for said place. Getting through downtown was a mess, as there was so much panic and chaos traffic rules were virtually ignored/forgotten. Finally, we reached the school where we were all going, and were told to board our ussuall busses and they would take us to our normal bus stops. Simple enough, so we did this all while watching jet fighters scrambled all over the skies above Whitehorse, and wondering what the bloody hell was happening. For all we knew, is was like the end of the world. To be brutelly honest, i stayed strong and tried to act normal and i was, but deep deep down the events of the day had scared the living shit outa me.

Shortly afterwards, on our ussual busses (route #21 for me) we attempet to leave the said school for home, but dispite the cops and the radio stations screaming there lungs out trying to get parents to stay home and there kids would be arriving at the ussual stops shorty, many parents went shit pannicy and attempted to go to the said school and pick up their kids, causing the biggest traffic jam in the Yukon's history. It was over an hour before our bus could go anywhere, because everytime one person cleared another car or 3 would squeeze in and block the way for everyone else while they searched for thier kids. It was hell. Scary, frustrating, outraging, dont even begin to discribe it. We were throwing crap at all the vehicles in the way, and the bus drivers were all beating the shit out of their horns, and everyone was screaming there brains out through the open windows. But of course it made no difference. Over an hour of being stuck in the worst traffic jam i have seen in my life after a speedy evacuation of all the schools for no known reason and fully armed jet fighters roaring a hundred feet above our heads.

It was lunchtime before i got home, and was able to hear about what was happening from my dad who workes at the airport, and was ordered to leave emmediatly exept for a few volunteers (he didn't stay when he heard it was Korean Airlines). By then all i wanted was a crap and a nap.

I can honestly say its going to take a hell of alot to make me forget that world-changing morning on a beautiful september morning in Canada's Yukon Territory. Untill then, i thought "oh this is the Yukon, nothing like that ever gunna affect us that much." My opppinion on that has forever changed. I have new respect for life as a whole.

Well theres my story, sorry to take so long but its one of those things that ya just gotta let out eh
