Good & Safe Flights To The Maldives?

Mon Mar 15, 2004 8:04 am

Hi

Does anyone know how to get to the Maldives from Stockholm?
I would like to fly a "known" and safe airline, preferably business class.
I been looking around and I just find either charter or for me unknown airliners.

Thanks for any help.  Wink/being sarcastic

I would go for UL (great Airline). They offer flights for instance from LHR, FRA, ZRH (UL 546 goes nonstop ZRH-MLE, as Amadeus tells!!)... to MLE via CMB... otherwise, check for charters like DE, LT (from FRA)...

my advice Take UL

The fastest connection from ARN to MLE is via ZRH with LX (Swiss) and then UL (SriLankan), travel time: 14.50 hrs

Austrian Airlines has 3 flights a week (operated by Lauda Air) from VIE to MLE, so this would be an option out of AMS, too.

Emirates (EK) has about 3 flights a day out of DXB, so most European Gateways (unfortuanely except AMS and ARN) should get you to DXB.

UL, OS and EK all offer C and Y-Cl.

First Choice Airways, formerly Air 2000, operate occasional flights from London Gatwick to The Maldives. LTU operate what are presumably charters from Germany. Emirates send their A330-200s into Male as well from Dubai. Hope this helps. The approach to the runway there has similarites with St Maarten but I do not know what viewing access might be like.

UL = Sri Lankan Airlines... a very good airline with good reputation and nice a/c... I would go for the Zurich-Male nonstop flight (UL 546) I mentioned up.
Tell me how you decided...! I am envying you...  Smile

I will go to Maledives in December, but fly in from India (TRV=Trivandrum), because I am in India before and the fare TRV-Male is riduculess cheap... but unluckily, this is a typical point-to point flight which is hardly connected to international traffic (TRV is only served from the Gulf and SIN, I think)

I flew UL routing LHR-MLE-CMB-K UL-SIN-CMB-LHR in Nov. 03 - and I thoroughly enjoyed every flight! I strongly and seriously recommend the carrier to you if they offer a service on the days on which you wish to travel. From LHR to MLE, it took 10 hours 23 minutes; from CMB to LHR, it took about 10 hours 45 minutes.

Solely for financial purposes about the cheapest route you could take would be via LGW with one of the charter-holiday carriers.

Brittannia, MyTravel and Monarch all have flights to MLE on a Sunday!

Im living in the Maldives.... you can often get a good package hotel booking with flights included, LTU and Monarch and Edelweiss are popular charters, oftentimes they give Biz class upgrades for a fee....

better to go with UL... they have nonstops from LHR and offer alot service for the price in biz class. (biz class EK would have to be the next best, but you would have two stops on the way to Male, and often the layover on the return are long in DXB.)

Be warned that if you are booking for the next month or so, there is a serious overbooking situation with almost all the resorts here.... many pax are arriving with their hotel changed without their knowledge, as the entire country is completely full at the moment....

Corsair flies once a week to MLE from ORY once a week (sunday and return on monday) and offer biz class.
For the hotel as Neptunescar said it is overbooked. As the hotel we go for our week layover, they usually propose us a all inclusive cruise to free some rooms.
