Lufthansa Economy Class A340 Amenities

Mon Mar 15, 2004 8:08 am

I am flying out of JFK on a Lufthansa A340 next week. What kind on passenger amenities are available in coach? Are there individual PTV screens or do a few rows share one?
Thanks
Glen

no PTV's in LH, for some strange reason I don't know... I personally don't like LH long-haul (space, food, service etc...) But only my opinion. But good on time performance and CLEAN aircrafts

The original LH 343s are tolerable in coach by all accounts. However, the ex-Sabena planes (D-AIMF & D-AIMG) are in awful condition. I flew on one a few weeks ago and was absolutely repulsed by the poor interior condition. The plastic seat pockets are broken, the lavatory sealants leak, etc...

What do you expect from Lufthansa ?!?
Lufthansa is only wearing the name Lufthansa and that`s their product in Economy Class. You get what you paid for, even if other normal airlines offering such services why should LH do so ?

Lufthansa get worser and worser day for day.....

By the way the A 330`s from SN have only the function to recover with the company owned Thomas Cook airlines an upcoming LTU insolvency.

Remember that LTU still needs finance !!!!

I'm also scheduled to fly LH's A340 in cattle class in a couple months. I do expect to get a somewhat better product than Delta since it IS Lufthansa. Germans in general are some of the most punctual and professional folks I've dealt with, and some of the cleanest as well in terms of air travel.

Looking forward to it, and I hope to see a trip report concerning your trip from JFK!

I have flown many times LH to Osaka Kansai on a A340. I have to say that the A340 on Lufthansa has a poor seat pitch in Y class, however the service is verry good, and also LH maintains clean cabins.

Just don't expect any amenities. What can you expect from an airline that does not even install PTV in their newest aircrafts. The strengths of LH is clearly on other things than on amenities.

Service and food will be very good on the A340, but legroom in the last few rows is below 31" pitch, so avoid them. Anyone over 5'10 will be very uncomfortable. Pitch in the other economy rows is fine. The Sabena A330's have several inches more legroom and PTV's.

I would agree with AFAY1 - avoid the last few rows of Y class, very very uncomfortable indeed. LH is OK, nothing to write home about though. I'm going to DFW in their Biz class hopefully next week, it will be interesting to sample the difference (if any !).

You should never expect any special amenities in Lufthansa's economy class. PTVs missing plus poor seat pitch are too main aspects which can be mentioned...and both in combination with the most boring aircraft ever - the A340 classic. Welcome to LH...

I don´t think LH´s Y-Class product is THAT bad. Of course, you don´t get PTVs unless you fly on the A332 or B763 which is astonishing considering most major airlines have installed or are installing new IFE systems at least on their flagships (which would be the B744 or A346 in LH´s case).
But: I have flown a lot on LH longhaul and was never treated in an appropriate way. Yes, you might not get as many (faked or not) smiles as on SQ or a nice amenity package as on MH but the service is consistent, efficient and professional.
And yes, the A340 is a slow climber but from a general passenger´s perspective a very nice airplane (quiet, 2-4-2 configuration in Y-Class).
I like to fly LH, even in Coach Class, because they heve never disappointed me, flights are more punctual than on many many other carriers and the seat pitch is just the usual crapmped 31" you get on most of the other airlines flying transatlantic as well.

Would be nice to read a trip report after you´ve finished your flights.

I flew MUC-SFO on Lufthansa A340 last summer in economy - had a great flight, good was great, service was excellent. No PTVs but showed a movie and read which was fine. Not sure I like the A340, seemed to take a long time to gain altitude but is very quiet I would fly them again, they were also great within Europe, always served food even on 1-2 hour flights but that may be changing according to some other threads here.

I am assuming a few rows share one moniyor, do they use airshow. I flew on KLM in 2001 and it had it and it was wonderfull. I always want to know where I am when I am flying and how fast I am going. I cant bring my GPS aboard, I gfot scolded on a AAL flight BWI to DFW for using one in flight
