It could be due to the bad weather too. Winds are really strong today and aircraft are currently approaching and landing on runway 27R at these really weird angles.

Those delays don't seem too bad; remember, they are the airborne times - from pushback to taxi to takeoff. Look at BA 039 for example.

Wouldn't they just have towed the DC10 away from its gate once the fire was dealt with?

I saw the whole thing from my office,it looked like an engine fire,it got put out by the onboard systems.

The fire dept escorted the plane back to the gate at T3.

No drama, the fire dept zoom around several times a day at LHR for things such as this and fire warning lights etc.

All in a days work.

The delays in LHR are most likely not as a result of this, it was posted in a different thread earlier. They have just re-numbered the taxiways at LHR, and have reduced the traffic flow rates to allow crew to get used to the new system. It's likely to continue for the next few days...!

Those airborne times seem pretty average for LHR and wouldn't suggest there were any significant delays.

Question about those departures... Why are there multiple carriers flying the same destination at the same time? Is this common at LHR?

Jblake1 - codeshare!

The Oz departures always seemed to be grouped within a few minutes of each other though.
