Flight-Tracking Software

Sat Jan 29, 2000 3:03 am

I know about Trip.com's flight tracker...a really neat applet on the web. I was wondering whether there is any legal reason why, in addition to the data you get, you couldn't also get the aircraft registration number. Seems to me that if you can get the plane's present heading/altitude/speed, the registration number should be no big deal. I'd love to track flights & see whether I've been on a particular aircraft. My log now numbers 275 commercial flights, every one with a registration number.

A simple answer is they don't have the tail number information, simply the equipment type.
This site and others pull their information from ATC feeds that don't have the tail number as it is irrelevant.
Hope this helps.

I used to have the Flight Tracker II program on my system that shows every plane in the air over North America. Literally there are close to 6000 little white plane icons all over the continent. Fascinating. You can go on the net and search for this and download. I don't remember what information you can get on that one though. It has been a few months since I have been on it. Check it out.
