Same Aircraft: Prefer One Airline's Over Another?

Thu Mar 18, 2004 12:50 am

As I flew last week, I found it interesting that I was on the same exact type of aircraft on 2 consecutive trans-Atlantic trips, yet I found the experience much more enjoyable on one airline then the other. And the seating layouts were the same too! (2x5x2) In my case, I found that I like the UA 772 much better then the AA 772.

However, there was 4.5 years between the 2 trips, so perhaps it was my perspective on the matter which changed my opinion.

Regardless... I was wondering if any of you have had the same experience? Have you been on the same type of aircraft on 2 airlines and liked them very differently, and what were the reasons why?

The seating issue is interesting. PIA, in my knowledge, has 3-3-3. Otherwise, all 777 I took were 2-5-2

I took them from 3 companies, SQ, UA and AF... I found them equally good, although I must say the SQ looked the nicest and most well mantained. But no big difference somehow

My favourite B777 is American's simply because they offer more seat pitch than any other in Economy. And I always prefer the 2-5-2 layout because I get only one person next to me.

See Udo, everyone talks about MRTC on American, but to tell you the truth, I really didn't notice that much difference. Granted, I was in row 31, (directly behnd the emergency exit row), so perhaps that limited my legroom somewhat. Regardless though, the only AA a/c which I've noticed any additional room on was the S80/MD-83 between SEA & ORD.

I would go with BA's 772's any day over DL 772's, BA offering 4-classes, with FC being amazing and BA coach section 3x3x3 compared with Delta's awful 2x5x2. BA's 757's also seemed more comfortable than Delta's "bench seat" comfort (or lack of) coach seats.

Just pryed my ass out of an economy seat on SAS's 340, SEA-CPH. Miserably uncomfortable, 2-4-2 seating. Any opinions on other carriers' 340 economy seating? SAS gets a thumbs down.

Had looked forward to this 340 flight as it was my first one. I remember their old 767s as much more comfortable.

I have done MEX-JFK-MEX in a DL 752 and in an AM 752 and I liked AM better. Service was friendlier and the passengers were much better in AM's flight.
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738

I find Malev's 734 more comfortable than KLM's. It's been about 3 years since I last flew on these airlines but I remember being more comfortable (as comfortable as you can be in economy  Smile ) on a Malev's plane. The flight attendants are also extremely nice
