Your Dream Job In Aviation.

Thu Mar 18, 2004 12:32 pm

To all airliners.net members what is your aviation dream job and why.

My own is to become CEO of BWIA.

I think that I can make a difference I day dream of building this mini aviation empire in the Caribbean and offer such good service that the airline interms of service is seen in the same light as Singapore, BA, Emirates etc.

Some of you might think I'm an idiot for this, but I would love to become the CEO of United Airlines. I know the problems they have, but I just love this airline too much.

Right now, I'll take anything in the industry, because I desperately want in and to stay in for the rest of my life... it's taken me this long to make the final decision!!

My dream job would be involving the fleet - whether fleet planing, liaising with manufacturers on new types - those kinds of things. That'd be fun - meeting the requirements of the route planners in equipment!!

Trent.
I do quite enjoy a spot of flying - more so when it's not in Economy!

My home airline, Malaysia Airline is currently not attached to any of the 3 alliances but I'm hoping that they'll join SkyTeam together with their partners KLM/NWA soon.

So my dream job would be to coordinate MH's entry into the alliance and manage the cooperation with other members. I speak some french so hopefully that would ease in dealing with Air France.

p/s - I've just finished my studies, so few weeks back I submitted my application to the airline for a management post (they are looking for fresh grads). I'm so desperate that they'd call me for an interview!!!

Fellow idiots unite!  Big thumbs up Actually, I'm with you...I've thought that on more than one occaision, and seeing Stephen Wolf talk in PDX in 1990 inspired me. That and that huge mansion he owns near Middleburg, VA...

After Jim Goodwin left, and the executive search began to replace him, I thought about sending in a resume just for shits and giggles, I mean...United NEEDS DESPERATELY a management team made up of folks who really believe in the airline and want to see it succeed. I'm one of them.

Who cares what someone else says? If your goal is to become CEO of UAL, go for it! Just get in line behind me! Big grin

As for me, I'd be happy being CEO or CFO....but I'd also LOVE to be able to fly, especially 777 or 767. I'd be happy being based out of IAD and living in Steve Wolf's old place... www.thomas-talbot.com It's the Rock Hill estate...only $12m

I don't want to be an employee or officer of an airline or aviation-related company, but I would love to be retained as outside counsel to AeroMexico after its sale by CINTRA to private investors. I would negotiate the leases and purchases of aircraft, codeshare agreements, loan agreements, etcetera; represent the company in offerings of bonds in Mexico and abroad; design the corporate governance policy of the company; advise it in connection with its regulatory matters (i.e., civil aviation, antitrust, etc.); be the Secretary of the Board of Directors, take care of the corporate books of the company and make the calls for Shareholders' Meetings; maybe lead the team of law firms that would advise it in its acquisition of a healthy, smaller airline in South America or elsewhere; and, the cherry on the cake, take it public in the Mexican Stock Exchange, the Latibex and in New York (through an offer of ADR's). The only thing I won't do is advise it in connection with its collective bargaining agreements with the unions.

As much as this makes me despised in the current economic world, I think it would be neat to be an airline analyst for an Investment Bank/Securities Firm. This way, you could see all the current trends of the industry and, from the M&A point of view, you could get involved with the deals that they do. And just so you know, just because I like this stuff does in no way mean that I approve of Carl Icahn or Frank Lorenzo (or even Gordon Gekko in Wall Street who tried to liquidate that airline Charlie Sheens dad worked for). I seriously would want to do good.

Hi

My dream job in teh airline industry...almost any job would be great, as long as I can watch the airplanes, and have something to do with them.

I would like start as a flight attendant. Lauda Air would be mine preferred airline. Eventually I would like to work for Austrian Airlines in their Department for Eastern Europe (negotiate new flights, frequencies, partnerships, destinations), actually focus on this market.

Or another dream job would be to work for the KLM, anything, just get me there! I adore KLM. ;o)

Finally, working for my own national airline Croatia Airlines would be interesting, since i have a lot of things on my mind how to reorganize it he,he, so being a CEO of Croatia Airlines would make my day!

And you can walk around in the airport as much as you like of you have an access badge that lets you go there.. And fortunalty I have that..  Big thumbs up

As much as I would love to fly, I would honestly love to apply my years of business and marketing skills to the commercial aviation sector. Either as part of a big carrier, negotiating new services, overseeing marketing, etc. etc. or as an outside aviation consultant. Traveling the world advising airlines on how to best utilize their resources or to take advantage of this lease or that route.

Of course, I have always considered a job such as the one played by Tom Hanks' character in "Castaway". That being a quality improvement specialist for a cargo carrier. What a rush that would be.

 Big thumbs up

1. Airline Reviewer for Conde Nast Magazine - First and Business Class. Mmmmmmm freee travellllll !!

2. Airport manager/ticket + checkin guy at a really tiny Caribbean airport, with maybe one or two flights a day by DHT or BNI, nothing big or complicated, load 'em up and ship 'em out then back to the hammock under the palm trees. Ton's of non-rev benefits (obviously) and a stress free working existence. Fabulous.

I do love my job in revenue management of a major Scandinavian airline (guess which one...), but what would be fun would be to work full-time on market/competitor intelligence. Imagine reading airline-news all day and get paid for it! Another cool thing to do for awhile would be to work in product development, and spend at least a couple days a months flying the competition to check out THEIR product....

Cabin Crew Gynecologist! thats sick....
All cabin crew aren't young pretty and in shape. How about super models?

My dream job is to be in charge of the inflight department for a smaller airline. Like Miami Air, Midwest, ATA, Aloha, so that I can be more hands on than with a larger airline. I don't want to be shuffling paper in a corporate office completely away from what I am managing.
