Sun Mar 21, 2004 3:35 am

hey, anyone knows about LanChile´s new livery? I read that Lan Chile (Linea Aerea Nacional, national air line) now will be just LAN, Latin Airlines Network.
any clues about the tokyo-miami-santiago route?

Thanks.

This was actually reported (the livery part, that is) a few weeks back. I was actually quite sad to read it, as the current LAN livery is one of my favourites. I had heard there was interest in Tokyo, but via Miami?

Wait untill Monday than you will see the new colors. They also look nice. I have received today a nice model.

As far as I know there are no plans to fly to TYO, they are absolutley no airplanes available at the moment at least with the A-340.

I really think their current livery is great. The new one has to be pretty damn special to beat this one

Hey ozzie, my source is El Mercurio, www.emol.cl, the newspaper i read every morning.
About the TYO-MIA-SCL route, i heard it right here, in this forum, a few months ago.

of course, we all hope the new livery will be elegant and simple, like the one is in use now.

I agree with Horus. There's simply no better looking livery than the current LanChile one. I seriously doubt they can come close to something as good looking as the current livery.

Could it be that they will simply change the "LANChile" designation for "LAN" and keep the same colors, design, etc.?

They will have a hard job to make something more beautiful than the current c/s!!
But, Tokyo via Miami?? Wouldn´t be more suitable to go via Lax??

"I'm willing to bet it'll have a lot of white in it!"

Indeed, It's known (and already posted in a.net) that the new scheme will have less blue, and the "Chile in the horizon shape" red line will be fuzzed. The chilean national colours red, white and blue will remain as the Lan colours, also the chilean star in tail. Lan people thinks this new c/s will be even better. This week we'll finally know.

Indeed, the actual colours have helped Lan I think in its duty of being the best ambassador of Chile in the world...

And remember...from now it is not more LanChile...  Sad....it is Lan.

You're right LanFan. As for national pride, It always felt good when you were abroad waiting at the airport and saw proudly the "Chile" titles in such a beautiful aircraft... Lan Chile has been chosen more than once the most admired company in Chile, and Chilean are so proud of Lan... We all wish the best for Lan, but still sad and not completely agree they change the c/s and remove "Chile". For 75 years Lan Chile has been "Our Airline", as their official slogan said in the middle 90's

Sorry it will be more than just a "Name Change".The hole livery is different, but in my point of view it is very nice, very modern and I see it also from
a photographer view.
Of course there is much more white but also a lot blue colors as well. Good combination.
It is hard to compare both liveries, the recent one is more classic than the new one.
Sorry I cant tell you more at the moment!!!!!

You will see it tomorrow on the 23rd.

Hey Lan707 tell us more about the new livery!

You said "the recent one is more classic than the new one"...please explain this...I don't get it. The actual and "old" LanChile colours are pretty modern I think...so do you mean that the new colours look more modern and trendy? Or do you mean that the actual colours are "classic" in terms of "it's a classic, those colours are known for their beauty", and the new ones being less "LanChile identifying"

ps: I hope you get my point...I don't know very well how to express myself in english... LOL

LAN_Fanatic

I got your point. It is very difficult to explain unless you see both liveries.
In my point of view the current of is one of the best in the world on all type
of LAN A/C and timeless.

The current one is "classic" most airlines paintschemes : 1 color on the top,
1 cheatline(not LAN) x 1 color on the bottom, the paint is all straight .
A current paint version.

The New One: White/Blue/Silver fuselage. White in front with larger LAN titles
kind of billboard titles but not bold.
The back of the fuselage is blue/silver and comes as kind of a wave from the
tail and comes down in the front section of the fuselage.
The tail is blue with reviced Star and small red wave, different to the current
red strip in the tail. No titles on the tail.
Engines are painted white

Sorry but it is difficult to explain the whole thing, but I hope you can understand it.

In my point of view it looks very nice, but there not much left to identify the
plane from "Chile".

But you will see it tomorrow to make up your mind.

Saldudos LAN Fanatic, will be in SCL in May

Hi

I also got a first glance on the new LAN livery via a friend of mine at LAN.
It was a rough blur photo. It's three-coloured (Silver, Blue, White). The tail now is all blue and the blue extends to the lower forward fuselage in a waved manenr like a wedge . The star in the tail is slightly bigger than the earlier one and not so out of shape.
The titles now are just LAN (as all might know by now  Smile/happy/getting dizzy ) on white ground. The font remained the same.

So, in my eyes, it's not a whole new CID, it's just a livery revision. I like it in a certain way, it looks spectacular although a little too 'designish'. I miss the word 'Chile' in it and understatement! It's a beautiful new livery!

Björn, my photo shows silver painted engines, can there be two proposals or is it just the bad light in my pic?
Sorry, I'm not allowed to post the photo until the official release tomorrow in SCL.
Hope the safetycards change as well, so I will have some new items to collect!!

Salu2 a todos!

Mario

With engine you might be right due the model is not the best quality Scale 1:600 and I have not seen a photo so far due I had off the day of the presentation.

LH526 what is your opinion??? I have to see it by myself first.

So my last hope is that they also change the safetycards  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Let´s hope for your new safetycards, I am not sure, we will see!!!!!

I agree with you but you have to remind LAN now is a very short name, you know the reason.
So the fuselage looks in that way a little bit empty, at least on the tail they
should remained the LAN title like in the current livery.

See you!!!!!!!

Bjorn, sent you an email, just checking to see if you got it...
Anyone who is going to be around on Mar 30-31st, let me know and maybe we'll get together to shoot the new colors, or visit FIDAE 2004...

One A340 and one A320 are the first planes to be repainted and officially unveiled on tuesday (That's what i was told in earlier this month)

I made plans to visit the FIDAE and my second home-country Chile again during this march/april, but University again came up with spring-brake project assignments forcing me to stay home :-( *arrggh*

Mario,

Thanks for the info. As an Airbus fan (gees, the name doesn't give it away),
that'll be two planes I'll be shooting for next week...Planning on flying in from LIM on the morning of the 30th (A340, new colors would be nice  Smile)
Someone mentioned that you can't get into FIDAE during the week, is that correct?

Jeffrey,
from what I remember the last times I've been there, during the week only 'professional visitors' are allowed, public access is only on the weekend.

Well, just pretend you work for a US aviation magazine as freelance staff and they might grant you access also during the week.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy I did the same in 2002 and in the end I really wrote an article in an aviation magazine.

i like the current livery aswell, along with the gulf air its certainly the best looking a340 livery out there
never flown LAN before, but now i had the choice between
IB DUS-MD), Spain">MAD or LAN FRA-MD), Spain">MAD both on 30.4 with return at 21.3

i picked LAN, IB was 159e and LAN only 153. despite FRA being 30mins longer drive then DUS i picked lan for the simple reason that i never been on one of their flights plus a a340 with ptvs etc is something more hospitable then one of the raunchy IB MD-90s

i am already looking forward to fly with this airline.

At the moment as it looks today will be rolled out a B-767, should be CC-CEK in new colors, about the A-320 I dont´know which and when. As the newest info we have to wait until we get a A-340 in new colors, sometime in summer.
Probably to busy the A-340. Too bad.

If I get new info I will let you now.

The new Lan Livery design is a "copy-paste" from one of Lila Design's. Lila made a simular livery for EuropAir va few years ago. So nothing new under the sun...i.m.o.

Hey Boeing 777/747...where did you get that from? That looks very much like what Lan707 said the new livery would be...so I'm waiting for him to tell us if that is the real new livery....

About the A340 being painted and showed today, I don't think so, as Lan has only 4 of them and they are extremely busy...

well...still waiting for the official release...I read today it will be released at midday-chilean time- so still 2 hours more waiting.

I also like the new livery, even though it's not a lot different then their current livery, it is still an improvement. I see more airlines adopting wavy liveries, examples being El Al (the first one to come up with this idea AFAIK), TNT, UPS, Gulf Air and PIA.
