MD-11 In SAV Today

Tue Mar 23, 2004 7:04 am

Hey guys, second post!  Big grin

I know some of you have access to some pretty cool flight information. Perhaps you all can help me and tell me about a MD-11 I saw leave SAV today between 9:45 and 10:00A ET this morning. It was dark gray like the C-130's we see all of the time, so I can safely say it was military. It was kinda cool because I think it's perhaps one of the largest aircraft I have seen operate here. We get the occasional 707 or KC-135, but it's rare to see anything like an MD-11.

Thanks in advance!

It was probably not a MD-11 and most likely a KC-10 Extender.

Checked red1aviation's site and didn't see any DC-10 or MD-11 departures as a commercial flight so it could either be military or a civilian plane (World, Omni, etc.) flying a "Reach" callsign which don't show up on flight trackers.

Wow, good eye there Flynavy. I was not aware of that aircraft. What's the difference? I'm assuming the equipment onboard obviously but anything to do with performance?

Looks pretty close to me lol.

The simple fact that the military does not own one single MD-11 is the reasoning here.

Ya it had to be a KC-10 Extender, I'm not doubting you here. I just wonder what the difference is. They look identical.

MD-11 is slightly longer than a KC-10(DC-10) and the MD-11 has winglets and more powerful engines
