PAN Am 727 At DAB

Thu Mar 25, 2004 12:11 am

Last night a Pan Am 727 came into DAB and then left out this morning. Does anyone have any idea what he might have been doing here. There is also a B-29 on the field today as well. I think it might be here so that people can walk through it or something. I might have to go check that out this afternoon.

The B-29 is undoubtedly the Commemerative Air Force (formerly Confederate Air Force) B-29 "FIFI", as it's currently the only flyable one in the US. It periodically goes on tour. It's worth a look if you've not seen one up close and personal.

There was something going on with the runway at SFB, and Pan AM was made aware of this prior to. Plans were made for the flight to arrive in DAB and the passengers were bussed to SFB. The aircraft departed DAB this morning to SFB once they were done with the runway maintenance.

You remember guys, when United 727 flew from ORD to MDT (Harrisburg). Harrisburg's runway was closed after midnight for maintenance on runway. The plane couldn't land right after midnight because they arrived a bit late. United pilots decided to fly back to Chicago! That's a ridiculous! Remember, we talked in our A.Net forum a couple of years ago. That's funny, why didn't United land to Allentown or Wilkes-Barres?

That's odd about the B-29 being there. According to our News Journal, FiFi is supposed to be on display at Deland airport (15 miles west of here) from yesterday thru Sunday from 9am-6pm. Curious as to why it would be at DAB then, unless it comes over here at night for security reasons, which I doubt. Deland is an uncontrolled airport.

Newspaper today said that the B-29 ended up in Daytona because of weather, and will remain here and open for tours til Sunday.

bummer it's not at Deland, i'm stopping there on my long cross country this weekend (i have no choice, as it's CRG-HWO-SFB-DED-CRG) on either saturday or sunday...i'd like to see fifi again, saw her in TRI a couple years ago but would like to get her on digital...oh well, might have to make a drive down to daytona or something this weekend to see her...

Why would it be at DAB because of weather? Deland is only 15 miles away and there weren't any bad storms anywhere in the area.

At DAB yesterday I saw a T-38 take off and there were some military choppers parked across the runway from the Embry Riddle Aircraft- looked like UH-1s and a cobra.
