United Express Jet Ways At ORD

Thu Mar 25, 2004 8:02 am

I was wondering if United Express uses Jetways at ORD? I recently saw a picture of a CRJ parked at a jet bridge in ORD... with company 737s parked next door. The gate however just appeared to be a regular United Gate, but has united gave any of it's jet bridges to Air Wisconsin, or any other of the express carriers to use? If I'm not mistaken an RJ compatible jet bridge is a jet bridge that has to be modified to get low enough? In addition, a CRJ compatible jet bridge needs to have a small bridge that runs on a track that is actually bolted to the inside of the jet bridge? That is there because the jet bridge has difficulties getting close enough because of the door on the CRJ right? Or, is UA sharing their gates with United Express aircraft, as I know most RJ compatible Jetways can work on the larger jets as well. Anyways, if anyone could answer these questions that would be awesome, thanks a lot!

Some regular jetways can be lowered enough to reach a CRJ. However they can't be placed flush against the fuselage because of the plane's built in stairs. Instead they use the small bridge that you mentioned. In some cases those bridges are retractable so they can be stowed under the jetway cab in order to accomodate a regular aircraft. In other cases they are just removed. UA will use gates at T1 for their RJ's since the Express gates at T2 always seem to be full.

The disaster-of-a-terminal 'F' in ORD doesn't use jetways. You walk out to several CRJ's . I don't mind , it's neat to walk out on the ramp, there. Also home in ROC,only American Eagle's ERJ's use jetways.

I've never seen the jetways in use on the CRJ's in F at ORD. They can mount flush though. Take a look at my pics:

*I didnt read the reply post*

I quit my job at ORD refueling UAX airplanes about 2 months ago because i moved about an hour and half away from ORD and they couldnt pay me more in order for me to make that kind of daily trip.

Anyways, YES.....the CRJ's use the jet bridges. The BAE-146's use the gates at theB2-B7, F4, F5, F6A, F7, F9, E7 thats about it these gates are also shared with the CRJ. Gates E2A, E2B, E3 are for Trans States, Mesa, Air Wisconsin, Skywest (CRJ-200,CRJ-700,ERJ-145)and they to use the jet bridge....all other gates arent used with the jet bridge. I would say there about half and half. F3 has spots A,B,C,D...all are acwired from the ground. Wish i would have taken some pictures now that the topic has come up.

Air Wisconsin uses gates C1-C7 gates with Jetbridges, also gate B22 is used by both Air Wisconsin and Skywest. And all United Express carriers share all the F-Gates. Air Wisconsin also uses gate E-7 (a Northwest gate)

Flyboy, what exactly do you need? I work with CRJ's all day so I can get just about anything you need. I have a nice little stash on the PC here (too bad anet won't take em lol).
