That's what I read in a local Cancun newspaper, however I think it will be only for the summer.

It also stated that AM will be doing some charter flights to Costa Rica.

This is good news. According to the SkyTeam website, an MD-80 will be used for the route. Perhaps someone knows if this will only be a seasonal service or if it will be permanent.

Good for AM! I think MX and AM should fight for getting more passengers from the US, Canada to CUN its simply amazing CUN's traffic and prescense from world carriers and Mexican airilnes lacks of prescene.

I've been told that in the last year (2003) CUN traffic raised 100.000 operations from the usual. Today also CUN gets around 500 operations in 1 day compared to MEx with 900 in one day. Traffic its dramaticaly increasing day by day. Lets see what else AM come's up with now that FF is leading the airline.

Well the CUN service is to remain , Not seasonal. I worked for AeroMexico in MIA for a few years and my Father is the US Director of Sales and Marketing. The aircraft will be an MD-80 series most of the time. The aircraft goes MEX-MIA-CUN-MIA-MEX. Hope that's some good info for you. If you need anymore info about AeroMexico ask me. Can find out some stuff for you.
PS. I pray that AeroMexico does not get taken over with the Mexicana name.

Yes, it seems to me that Mexican carriers need to do more international routes to/from CUN. I think they won't get a lot of passengers who pay the highes, unrestricted fares (although there will be some business passengers due to the heavy investment from Europe in the Mayan Riviera), but they will have very high load factors so I think they can manage to make a profit, even if it is small. I look forward to seeing more MX and AM international routes ex-CUN.
