International Carriers In Denver

Thu Mar 25, 2004 9:04 am

I have a question that I am hoping some of you can answer. With British cutting their service in San Diego, and Lufthansa cutting Phoenix, how are both carriers doing in Denver? Are the flights subsidized by the city, or are they holding their own?

Thanks

I suspect LH is holding its own in DEN, as they are now flying in a daily 747-400. I saw the plane load yesterday. It was packed! As for BA, their London flight always goes out full, whether it's operating with a 777 or 744.

What drives the demand for these flights? Are there a bunch of German/British companies in the Denver metro area? LH probably gets a healthy dose of connections with UA's hub at DEN but what about BA? Just curious.

Bartond,

Denver is a big city with 2.7 million people. There is demand for it to have a couple flights to Europe.

I fly on both these several times and they are always full. Often times overbooked.

Even though LH is partners with UA, most of the passengers on LH's flight are heading to Denver, not connecting onto UA's flights. This is from personal observations. I've flown on the flight twice so far.

As for British Airways, again most are coming to Denver. Some connect on UA to Aspen or Vail. This is from personal observation from my 10 to 15 times that I've flown on it.

Regards

Do any of the Denver folks know why an Air New Zealand A320 was parked at A35 yesterday? I was a couple of gates down on an F9 flight and saw LH, BA, and NZ tails. Looked very nice......

JetBlue had purchased it from them I guess. I did not see it, but that is the only reasonable explanation.

The ANZ A320 came in yesterday around 3pm from Gander...it was on a delivery flight -- headed to New Zealand.

From Denver? or was there another stop? If it didn't have pax, then why park at a gate?

The last ANZ A320 delivery flight in February routed via TLS-YQX-DEN-LAX-HNL-APW-AKL. I suspect this one did the same. As for being parked at the gate, I have no idea but it did not have pax. I had a chance to chat with the pilot while enroute to YQX and he told me that it was a delivery flight and the remarks section of the flight plan also said non revenue delivery flight.

Regards.
