Trip Advice

Sat Mar 27, 2004 3:32 am

I have basically 3 choices for an upcomgin trip, DSM-HNL:

1. AA DSM-ORD CR7
ORD-HNL 763

2. UA DSM-ORD CRJ
ORD-HNL 772

3. NW DSM-MSP DC9 (or a selection of commuter craft)
MSP-HNL DC10

Now, if we don't have our school year extended any more than it has, and I can go the first week of June, a fourth choice would be:

4. CO DSM-IAH ERJ
IAH-HNL 764

Now, the number 4 choice I felt was the no-brainer. However, there is still a possibility I won't be off work until the day before, or even have it go over, so the chances are slim.

Any advice would be helpful. A brawl between AA/UA/NW faithful won't be helpful...someone with travel experience on all, if not 2 out of these 3 or 4 carriers would be helpful. I've never done a NW flight yet...any info?

I would say AA, AA offers a decent coach class product plus you'll have MRTC in coach (what class are you flying?). And most importantly AA needs the money

Cwapilot,
When you come right down to it, there's not a whole lot of difference between any of the domestic carriers these days in terms of service. It's not like you've got a real meaningful choice here. No international or exotic carriers.

Of the choices you list, the 772 is probably the most comfortable aircraft if you're sitting in Economy. Otherwise, go with the best fare and/or timings.
It's been swell, but the swelling has gone down.

I would go with Northwest, just because of the older planes. Do they offer IFE to HNL?

I would go UA to Hawaii - they are the best to the islands by far!
