NWA A330's?

When are they gonna get them or are they? I hope not, I would hope they get 777's like their partner Contnental.

NWA's A330's are due to begin arriving in 2003 or 2004 (according to Airliners magazine).

Last time I heard the order was cancelled and Continental was trying to assist them in upgrading their fleet, hence all Boeing.

Didn't CO announce that they were buying back all the stock that NW owns? From what I understood, the partnership will remain, but the parentship will end.

I expect to see NW follow US Airways in becoming a major Airbus fleet.

I also wonder what will happen. Many different things are being said about NW A330's. An earlier person said that a magazine mentioned that Northwest ordered A330's. I read that in the magazine, too, so I guess Northwest did order them. But after asking about this in the chat room, everybody there said that Northwest cancelled the order, so I'm not exactly sure. I hope we will find out what is happening soon.

Northwest will never become an all Airbus fleet. They have 747s and have ordered more according to their website which i just checked out. And it does say they ordered A330s after all. Which is too bad. The 777 would have been a better choice. It holds more and can carry people farther than the A330 and not to mention it can takeoff quicker than the A330 because of its mammoth engines. Too bad, too bad, what would they replace their b757s with, dont say A321 cuz they wont work on medium haul to long flights, and the Dc9s sadly are being replaced by heavy fuel innefiecent A319's and presummably A318s. The Boeing 717 would be a better choice. Just another case where Boeing aircraft would have been a better choice.

USAir 737, as much as I am a Boeing fan, you kill the argument by making such assertions with no facts to back up your argument.
-Im quite sure that the ugly, boring, stout A319s are NOT fuel inefficient. If you think so, give us a fuel burn comparison with say a DC9-50. Otherwise, dont say such a thing.
-The 777 can take off quicker than an A330? Are you trying to be funny or something?

While I never thought I would so unquestionably defend Airbus, uninformed, non factual assertions are pointless and harmful to an educated discussion.

Please find facts to back up your assumptions.

NW has still 16 A330-300 in the books. The delivery was deffered till 2003 when they placed an order for 30 A319/320 last year in Le Bourget. Currently Northwest is looking on its options to replace the DC-10-X0 and 747-200. In the race are the 330-200/-300, th e430-300/-500, the 767-400 and the 777-200. No decision will be announced soon.

The A330`s fit way better into the newest part of NW´s fleet. Why should they order Boering´s instead ? That wouldn`t make sense.

Indeed the A330-300 remains on NWA's order books. I believe they could materialize as -300s (with the PW4073 engine on them) or as a mix of -200s, or even into the -500/-600 models later on.

NWA believes in multi engined operations (greater than 2) on it's very long haul routes, particularly the Pacific. Historically that has proven true and I believe it will remain so. And to buttress that, it was reported not long ago in a Wall Street Journal or AP story on NWA, which also dovetailed with the views offered by a former NWA 747-400 captain, Mel Ott. He has (or had) a website at AVSIM.Com detailing his experiences with NWA and are truly eye-opening into how NWA operations worked. Fleet selection also came up in several of his threads so I refer folks to see it to get an educated perspective of how it -really- happens.
