Westjet At T2 - YYZ

Sun Mar 28, 2004 10:45 pm

With the designation of Westjet relocating to T-2 at YYZ, wondering how this impacts the plans for the terminal. With AC relocating domestic ops to T1-New, the west end of the building was gradually going to be dismantled.
Has the GTAA extended a "stay of execution" in the domestic wing to accomodate WS flights, or will they be consolidating/sharing facilities with AC/UA in the transborder area, until such time that they occupy T1-New?

Good question. How many additional gates will be installed in Pier D once T1 old is removed? Enough for Westjet?

The west end of T2 is going to loose about 60% of its gates, the rest are going to WJ until the new pier opens at T-New.

The plans for T-2 always called for the west end to be demolished all at once after the new pier is open and as soon as it is torn down, the number of gates on it will double, along with additional gates at the existing pier which will open with the new pier. The only difference now is it wont be Air Canada moving, it will be Westjet. Now when phase 4 for T1New kicks off, the rest of T2 will have to be torn down.

Westjet will be getting the former "Rapidair" Gates, and a few of the domestic gates to the west of that area...

AC will also be moving when the next phase opens as the Trans-boader operation joins the domestic and international ops at T1.

To be honest Im not 100% sure. I will check and post it tomorrow evening. I think its 6 or 7 Gates (221 (Also the bus bay from T1New),223,225,226,229,231, Maybe 233) Like I said I'll have to check....I would asume that they will also have access to the trans-boarder gates for their TB operation. They will probably get Mod-Q check in area for that stuff.

Anybody want to make a bet on how long it will be before WS is in T New?

The agree ment that GTAA nad AC has says they have to use the gates to keep them. Is a post CCAA AC (assuming they emerge) going to use all of those gates?

Apparently the plan they resubmitted to GTAA after finding out WS wanted some of those gates is very heavy with flights. Will they have the activity to justify their use?

Maintaining and utilizing 14 gates considering the scope of Air Canada's domestic operation is not an issue. They utilize more than 14 gates currently at T2.

The question is, if there are overflow aircraft to be used for domestic operations, where will they be parked?? T2, Infield, or holding areas?

Ok looked at it, and all the Gates from 209 - East are staying open. Not sure which is the last doemstic gate on T2 but I think its around 231, so that means 9 or 10 gates open.

AC's domestic overflow will still go to T2. WJ only wanted 6 or 7 gates right? Still leaves room for ACA's overflow.

Very inefficient; it's going to be a mess for a wee bit...
